so im looking to do track days with the corvette. now before any of you assfucks chime in and start telling me this or that about MY CAR AND WHAT I WANT TO DO, go fuck yourself.
ok so i was looking into www.nysafetytrack.com and looking at joining and doing some FUN track days with the corvette. just fun driving is all. nothing serious or anything like that right now, FUN!!! they have a DB restriction of 90 db and will not refund me my money if i go an the car is too loud.
anyone want to shed some light on this? my roomate races his bike and has never seen a DB meter at any track and says they just say that to protect themselves.
again, just want to have some fun with the corvette, not looking to go balls to the wall in anything.
Lots of tracks have noise limits these days to keep the locals from bitching, Lime Rock is the worst, Mont Tremblant is a close 2nd, they will pull you off track if you are too loud. NYST is a new track that from the videos is still a little sketchy in terms of runoff and trees, that being said I may do a day there in June to check it out. I also don’t believe they offer any instruction, so its not exactly the ideal situation for first time on a track. There is no shortage of clubs that offer instruction at similar price points. I would highly suggest you sign up with one of those clubs not only for your benefit but also for the people that would sign up for an open track day like at NYST who would not be excited to have to watch out for a new guy who was new to the game.
so basically having a loud car on any track isnt going to happen. this blows my mind. i mean its a fucking race track for all purpose and intent. i get the surrounding houses etc but if its in the middle of nowhere…??? who the fuck cares!!! dumb if u ask me, dumb.
benny you have heard the vette, opinions on sound/db level??? granted it wasnt WOT but still.
the evo is AWD and just not interested. id rather learn how to properly manage something RWD and something thats not my daily. id use the M3 but…the SMG braking scares the fuck out of me. if i break something on the vette, its not the end of the world and ill have something to daily still. see i cant even drive the vette to work. at work we have these dumb fucking government issued pop up barriers that you have to drive over and the vette is too low. even stock vettes scrape. so there for…the corvette is what i want to play with.
and when people say the corvette is too mmuch for a track, it kinda makes me go :Idiots. a gas pedal is variable for a reason no? this is a track day and its not a race car correct? and if im not mistaken a stock c5 z06 will do the ring in like 7:56 i think… its not like im going to be booting it around the corners on a fun track day.
again…everyone this is only for fun. not looking to race the corvette just drive it, do some track time and have some fun. THATS ALL! :number1
Watkins Glen, NJMP, NHMS don’t have sound limits. Lime Rock, Calabogie, NYST, Mont Tremblant all do. Some are in the middle of nowhere some are across from churches, some are near farmers that claim their goats won’t breed due to the noise (actual complaint at Calabogie).
the problem with high horsepower cars, and particularly vettes, is the car’s capabilities are infinitely beyond your own on your first track day. you can get into trouble quick, you’re a smart dude though you’d probably be fine…but you’ll learn a lot more with a car that can’t light up the tires in 4th gear
oh, and wtf are you going to do if it rains on the day of your event? they’re generally rain or shine, I’d bet that car would be damn near undriveable at those speeds lol
i agree and i am nervous and one should always be when doing something like that. its when u get too comfy, you start to not pay attn and shit happens. to me nervous is good and keeps you aware. slow and steady.
learning is always a curve. a slow steady curve. im game to drive slow and steady forever it thats what it takes. as long as there is a smile on my face then life is worth living. :hug
Im so paranoid someones going to smash my new car or im just going to fuck up because its performance stock is probably more than ill ever be able to handel.
lol I guess my point is that an 800hp vette’s place really isn’t on a road course, even with a very experienced driver…it’s just biased too heavily for one purpose with that much power…but yeah regardless you’ll probably be fine so long as you listen to your instructor and keep your wits about you
