Hey I have had a tranny sitting in my garage for 4 years and now I want to use it. what would I have to do before sticking it in the car? Should I even bother? I can move the shifter smoothly without any weird noises but that doesnt explain much.
Im going to assume its a 5spd? First off I would obviously change out the fluids if I were you…other than any painfully obvious signs of damage I would say the only way to test it would be to install it.
the tranny didnt have any fluids in it, was sitting on top of a palet in my garage for 4 years :D. kinda scared to install it then find out that its dead and have to pull it out again :(.
aslong as it seems to move freely and shift fine I dont think there would be any problem, its the same thing as if you were to buy it from a scrap yard, they sit on a shelf with no fluid for who knows how long.
If it wasn’t sitting in the rain, there will be nothing at all wrong with it. It’s made of steel and brass…what could a short time do? Nothing.
Fill her up and beat it.
