Valentine 1 Radar detector has been long considered one of the best commercially avaliable radar detectors that you wouldn’t have to give up your first born for. Major contributor to the popularity is the convinience of the remote display and the crazy installs that followed.
I’ve been considering the hardwire mod for my V1 thats posted on audi forums. it taps into the wiring by the sunroof so you dont have the coiled wire hanging, but then I figure, what if i wana take somebody else’s car for a trip? I think id want the mirror bit with a separate wire that plugs into the unit, so its still removable. i dont want to permanently hardwire it in, just for that one time when ill wana take it out
thats why you buy the hardwire cord for your personal vehicle, and use your regular wire for your secondary car. i have done this with my cars. hardwire cord in the bimmer wired off sunroof, and regular cord in my jetta, which i’ll probably get a hardwire cord for eventually.
Ok, i’m going to feel stupid asking this after it’s answered but i’m confused. That ebay listing is for a modified V1 so you can mount it somewhere in the dash or in the cluster. What else would I need to do this in order for it to work parts and cost wise?
I was waiting for someone to post this. That’s not a mod…You can buy factory fit drop fitment mirrors like that for the 986/996 and newer Porsches. Totally stealth
The valentine unit itself has to go somewhere on the windshield or outside of the car with a clear view in front of it, as to keep the receiver sensors open to signal, the remote unit however can be applied anywhere inside the vehicle. The typical box remote unit is ~50$ from V1 website and IIRC comes with a hardwire line.
Whats the use of spending 400 bucks on the V1 and than 300 on the mirror? Your still going to have a radar detector somewhere on your windshield. With 700 bucks ya might as well get an integrated custom unit with better sensing and have a laser jammer to boot.
