This plan has come back up, but slightly different. I never did make the trip or find anyone to go with…however, a buddy who lives just south of Los Angeles is driving to PA for his sisters wedding and we are planning on doing the trip. So, I’m going to fly out from Albany to Portland, OR to see some friends and rent a car and make the quick 14hr trip south to LA.
Going from LA to Lancaster, PA though…what should we see? We are planning to go to Vegas and then see the Grand Canyon…after that it’s pretty much an open slate. Any suggestions?
I’m trying to do this in a week and maybe 2 days…don’t know if I’ll be able to get off an entire 2 weeks from work (but will freakin try).
My sister gave herself about 2.5 weeks and zigzagged from here to San Fran with at least a dozen good stops. Moved back a couple months later and did it in 5 days and still made 5 or 6 touristy stops. Definitely more about the journey than the destination. I’ll ask her if she’s got any recommendations when I see her.
If you have time in Portland take a drive up route 14 to bridge of the gods. 14 is a fun sorta twisty scenic road on the wall of the Columbia River Gorge and bridge of the gods is a big steel deck bridge over the gorge.
