Tryx's Evo IX history, build and plans

Thanks for the heads up. I’ve been thinking about changing to a Aquamist HSF-5, but hearing this sets it in stone.

The SP WG failsafe saved my Evo IX motor when the Forge MBC decided to shit the bed and let my car run unlimited boost…if it didn’t there things would’ve gotten realllllly hairy!

Yeah that was a scary scenario. Boost overrun galore!

Matt, if you want to get that housing for the $250 go for it. I can make one for about that(~$200-$225), but would just take more time than slapping on a pre-fab part that’s all. Mike’s was just a nit pick because I had a tiny place to route the tube, and they like to use a 2" dump tube diameter which is way overkill for that kind of setup. 1-3/4" would have been plenty fine and made things a bit easier.

ofcourse yours did. youre one of the lucky few. the reason snow doesnt sell the fail safe anymore is because it didnt live up to its description. Lucas English of English racing is developing his own solenoid to work with the SP fail safe controller for the current owners of SP FS boxes that are just collecting dust… wait for it… for a meth kit, the Aquamist is tip top though

so is their price tag :lol (built my own multi port injection setup with MS program for less than their stuff) Expensive but then again at least their stuff doesn’t break like the SP/Labonte parts, and you can actually buy a system that you can tune as good as EFI.

id rather pay for the best rather than blow up like the rest.

Sounds like a line straight from FATF :lol …but oh so true

i wouldnt know im not fluent in the language of rice, sorry. but isnt the saying, build it right, or build it again… im not for spending the money on something twice

haha,
Fast, Cheap, Reliable… Pick 2 :ohnoes

wow make a poll on here about that.

probably the hardest question ever

for the average consumer, yes fast, cheap, reliable. only 2 work… but if youre someone like morgan who could build and tune it himself, that becomes different… because what is costly to us, would be alot cheaper for him, just very time consuming.

don’t have to tell me twice… ORDERED!!

:mwahaha

Or couldn’t it be the fact that the one I bought was one of the early production ones that was actually built by Labonte Motorsports? Ever since Labonte stopped manufacturing for SP they have fallen to shit. SP got too big for it’s britches and thought it could make stuff themselves…oh what a mistake! Now Labonte is out on there own and still turning out very high quality products at a fair price. http://www.labontemotorsports.com you should check it out

Been hearing alot about Labonte recently. I didn’t realize they were the ones who originally manufactured for SP.

Yup…I’ll let BoxerSix chime in with his opinion on the quality as he’s the fabricator…but from looking at all the parts that I had bought and that others have bought I’ve been VERY impressed with what they provide for the $.

Yes Labonte produced the parts for SP at one time…if you took the case lables off you would not be able to tell the difference between the two companies systems. Same housings, same guts, same fittings, same tuning parameters and logistics.

The Labonte product is still top notch, and the new MAS controller setup is really working well(Tony uses it on the 996 Turbo setups he makes with excellent results every time). The only thing Labonte is tweaky with is that damn touch screen. Iffy at best when it works and not the greatest appearing part to stick in the car. It’s just an interface really and has nothing to do with storing the function of the system settings. I’d personally just use a laptop to adjust/record and leave the screen back at the factory. Already had a few other those go back(Justin was one of them) for failures/lockup. What sets Labonte apart from the others is their customer service. Jon and the other guys are on the ball when it comes to this and know their shit, so when you call you don’t get some hack flipping through a book lookign for answers

*** cough AEM cough*** Wha what?! :haha

Labonte is not Aquamist by any means, but works very well for the price paid and has not given fault yet on any setup I’ve installed/tuned. Every manufacturer has it’s defects, Aquamist included. The added benefit you get with the Aquamist systems is programmable injection options by pump duty cycle, because the pump is a piston style piezo pump, not a rotary vane constant flow (aka shurflo) pump.

maybe. but id say “luck” is a factor, also i know the history of Snow Performance. and no thanks ill pass on lebonte. i dont do meth. alot of VW guys are going that way, just not me…

Boxersix is how i read it… i dont see the S capitalized… just thought id point that out.

I did QA for the engineer that built their Stage 3 and he was a nice guy. I’ve seen some preliminary data and it was impressive. About all I have to add but every product seems to have its good and bad with certain people.
