I’m not too concerned about it going back in. The minimal problems i’m encountering now are due to old frozen and rusted parts. Everything going back in will be new. Not saying it’ll be easy, but It’s not going to be overly difficult
With fresh hardware, it shouldn’t be bad to re-assemble.
Wow, glad you found the problem
+1
 for progress.
Or a rod let go and blasted the block…
I never had the oil pan off the car, but maybe the previous owner did?
at least you’ll be able to get the wiring harness in the right spot.
speaking of wiring harnesses…do you have a new one, or an old brittle one?? If its an old one, you might want to put up the bucks and get a new one and save yourself a ton of headaches later. Alot of heat gets trapped under that hood and they are notorious for breaking clips etc because of it over time
he has a new one, but it’s routed poorly because it was installed after the motor was in.
perfect time to fix that then haha
edit that must have been a BITCH putting that in there with the motor in the car still!
I’m leaning more toward it being a rod that let go. Had it been a stress crack leading to that piece breaking off i woulda been losing oil a lot sooner and probably would have gone dry, and with the generous amounts of oil that poured from the car when it blew i know it was far from dry at the time of the boom
you have no idea.
JDM motor awesomeness.
Never ever never ever.
Andy, are you sure the motor blew?
:mamoru:
Wire tuck it! lol
Wire tuck it!
fuck off…honestly, you’ve seen my engine bay…no fucking way in hell would i put that kinda effort into something so small and pointless lol
Been pretty busy…motor still isn’t out. Don’t wanna take the chance pulling it all alone in a garage in case something goes wrong, and can’t recruit any help to watch for clearances as i hoist it so gotta wait til somebody wants some free beer and/or pizza for standing around and offering a second set of eyes and hands…
But, i got bored since i couldn’t make any working progress, so to feel productive on the project i finally ordered some goodies that should be arriving this week! Found some killer deals with group buys taking place on a Z board…such as an aluminum 1 piece driveshaft, some pretty big (compared to stock obviously) side mount intercoolers with new silicone tubing, 555cc Nismo injectors (as opposed to 370 stock), and some bling/rice…a new HID kit.
I should have pics up later this week, maybe sooner if i can find somebody that wants to help pull the motor…
edit:
forgot to mention new polyurethane motor mounts, and a bit of engine bling…
Can’t wait to see the pics of new shinies…and the motor out :squint:
Im at out of work until thursday. I am going nuts in the house. If you need a hand lend a hand. The best day would most likely be tuesday. Also you can keep your free food and drinks, just get me out of this damn house.lol.
Well…some parts came in, not as many as fast as i wanted…and i got really bored and started to feel unproductive sitting around waiting for parts, so decide to go put some time in, installing what has arrived…
Proof of said overnight parts from Japan:
I’ll let the pics do the talking for me today…
Old intercoolers:
Comparison pics:
New ones installed:
The silicone couplers they came with were a HUGE pain in the dick to get onto the intercoolers…but then i remember Jenna Jamison once saying that one of the best forms of lube was spit…and since i had nothing else readily available, i decided to use this technique and sure as shit, with a bit of spit smeared around on the intercooler pips and a bit in the silicone hoses, they slid right in
Also note that the new ones look like they’re hanging down slightly…obviously because they’re twice as big…and twice as heavy as the stockers…but once i had the ducting attached to them (not pictured), it bolted to the sides and held them upright and facing straight forward…so no worries.
And now for some rice:
6000K’s
I fucking love the HIDs…my ONLY concern is where i’ll be mounting the ballasts since the engine bay is already so packed with garbage and they’re not exactly small…
And…upon installation i made sure everything was clean, but the driver side bulb barely tapped the inside of the headlight housing while i was carefully inserting it :picard: …hopefully this doesn’t come back to bite me in the ass, NOTHING else touched either bulb…
Unfortunately those are the only 2 things that have come in. I’m watching the tracking on other parts, and arriving tomorrow should be the new injectors, and tomorrow or friday should be the new baller driveshaft and the new polyurethane motor mounts. And as can be seen in the “Penny for my thoughts” thread…i have finally purchased my new motor that’ll i’ll be working on and dropping in the car hopefully within the next month…with some new snails attached to it
…oh, and no…the old motor STILL isn’t out…though EVERYTHING holding it in is disconnected…the chains on the hoist aren’t long enough and i haven’t really done anything to solve this problem, been pretty busy lately…after i come back from Daytona bike week a lot more of my attention/free time is going to go into this project, no more of this working on it maybe once a week but an hour or two or three shit…
