How can you tell the manufacturer of a turbo? I got this laying around and wanna get rid of it. Worth?

eBay turbos are hit/miss in terms of if they will actually work or not… some blow up 30 seconds after startup, some work for a LONG time, but are not nearly as effficent as “name brand” turbo vendors, these typically are based on old designs of both the journal bearings/impeller
Possible for the turbo to be rebuilt by like turbonetics with upgraded wheels? I was told specs are “.63 ar stage 3 turbine with h trim compressor made by turbonetics” Purchased it like 3 1/2 years ago.

100% chance turbonetics never touched the thing… it may be a turbonetics “design” meaning the chinese stole the design and figured out how to cut cost and sold it…
You really have no idea if the “specs” on those are even accurate… without measuring the cross section of the housings to detirmine the actual AR of them, and what trim the wheel actually is…
even if it was rebuildable by them, it would likely cost as much/more than the cost of just buying the name brand equivalent anyway.
I had an ebay turbo years ago.
Then I found pics of cracked turbine housings and traded it for a used N2O setup.
I have no idea what ever happened to the kid that traded me.
Edit: he also borrowed my copy of maximum boost, but i’ll never see that again.
