ebay turbo's

Has anyone on here ever bought the turbo’s they sell on egay???
Just curious if they are total crap, or what. I know its not something you want to skimp on.

here are some links of what im talkinga bout

I like the install guide at the bottom on that one.

The other company that sells them cheap.

What do you think, waste of $$

Also does anyone have an old t3/4 sitting around that I could use for piping mock up?

waste of money imo, this is liek the golden rule for buying anything
you get what you pay for

a side note, i belive it was on honda-tech there was a thread about someone who ran one of these turbos and the actual compressor housing split in to halves and it appeared that it had only been GLUED together in a few random spots form the factory. a new t3/t4 is like 400, just spend a little more and get a garrett

Well the cheapest place i have seen is cheapturbo.com
Tehy are like 600ish.

You know of any other places?

http://www.vsracing.net/store/product.php?p=101

that one is 550 but comes with a warrenty from garrett

http://www.mjmturbos.com

that place usually has good deals

and just search ebay for actual garrett turbos, they will say garrett on the housing

they are cheap, and not up to Garrett quality, but installed properly with oil pressure they will work fine. there are guys using the disco potato knock off with no issues over on honda-tech.

if you have the money or can save it up, get a Garrett. if your on a tight budget, go with the cheaper turbo… but understand it will not last as long.

Hmmm… this thread is giving me some ideas.

another question while this thread is going, who recomends water cooled? You think its important, not a big deal if your not racing, what??

Agreed you get what you pay for

well i can’t speak about those specific ebay turbo’s, but i can tell you that the ones a couple of the rx7 guys tried ALL failed when boosted over 13psi. on lower boost they were fine, but as soon as they went over that mark the wheels were starting to hit the housings and killing themselves. why cheap out on a turbo, get a good one initially and save yourself all the hassles later on

heres the link i couldent find b4

http://www.westcoast-turbo.com/turbos.html

those are all rebuild, is that a big disadvantage?

meh not rly, they are basically brand new when rebuilt, email that place and ask what kinda warrenty there is on the turbos

  1. Switch on your vehicle by rotating the key 8-10 times (Do not step on the gas, just rotate the key to make the engine to work only). Drain out the dirty oil (This procedure is for cleaning your engine). Repeat this procedure 2 times.

this is part of that install procedure you were talking about? i don’t know about cranking your engine with no oil in it nothing good can come from it.

don’t be a pussy pick up the phone and make some calls or send out some pm’s

www.cheapturbo.com is your best friend

check with innovative he has really good prices

The story behind this is that a kid dropped the turbo and the compressor housing cracked. He glued it together to sell on eBay. The turbo didn’t some that way from the factory.

:word:

alot of the guys on the ka-t boards use them, and they often sing their praises. its like 25 good things to every bad thing, and they r bossting a decent amount on them too, ill find the link sooner or later

whatever you do dont buy the xspower turbo… we bought a t4 to test it in my buddies eclipse…and they shit lasted less than a month…

Save up for a better one…imo…

The ones I’ve seen are crap. You can find hundreds of threads on the internet of people bitching that their ebey turbo took a crap after a couple weeks. It’s not worth the trouble. Buy quality and do it right the first time. Just think…you’d be paying for install twice, extra gaskets, tuning twice. You’d lose enough money to just do it right the first time.

Since this is the tech forum I’ll leave pricing out of this, but I deal with the major turbo manufacturers and haven’t been beat on price yet, so let me know if you need anything.

As far using some random t3/4 turbo to mock up piping goes…you can’t. The housings are different sizes, the compressor outlets are different sizes, etc. You need to pick your turbo first, which we’d be happy to help you with.
