Turbo timer on non turbo car = ricey ?

Hey guys…

I want a volts guage or something just so I make sure my system doesn’t kill the battery and thus leave me stranded…

But the thing is a volts guage would look retarded in my car since I don’t have any other ones so I woudlnt’ have a pod or anything…and I’m not gonna buy a bunch of guages for the hell of it cause well, my car is stock and there’s no point.

Also note that a volts guage is like 50 bucks. Now, a certain seller is selling 3 nice turbo timers (HKS, Greddy) for only 60 shipped.

So I was thinking it would be a decent idea to get a turbo timer (which has a thing there to view volts) , since a) it won’t look so out of place, b) it will idle my (stock) KA for 30 seocnds, which I do anyways…

However, upon asking for advice from certain people msn, poeple have claimed it is ricey. So I want to make a poll… do you think it’s ricey or not?

Also can someone tell me if I’m stupid for idling my non turbo car for a tiny bit after driving it a little harder than usual? I thought it helps but if it doesn’t then I’ll stop doing it… and if it does then I dont’ see why getting a turbo timer is ricey?

Thanks.

If you think you need it to monitor your voltage, then get it. Who cares if it’s ricey?

get what u want… as long as its not 5 inches wide gauge lol… style fashion appearance… everyone got their own taste… turbo timer on n/a is fine if u want it…but not much point

Well the thing that bothers me is that I’m also the type to like a clean car, and dislike ricey things, like huge tachs on stock civics, 10 guages in teh car on a stock civic, and other pointless things. So I wouldn’t like if 90% of the population through I was a ricer

And while I see that turbo timers are meant for turbo cars, I don’t see how it’s ricey to use one, seeing as it helps NA cars as well (AFAIK, I’m not sure anymore really) by idling them a bit, and can be used for other purposes. It’s not like I’m trying to pass my car off as a turbo though, that should be obvious. This isn’t like a boost controller I want to stick in to look cool and tell people I have a turbo…

But honestly I think a guage would look even ricier. Cause, like I said my car is stock, so I dont’ want to overload it with guages, and one volts guage would just look out of place. A turbo timer is just a small electornic thing that I can stick under my deck and it wouldn’t look that out of place, IMO.

try not idling it when you’re done driving and see if your battery dies… if its a consistent problem, find a rebuilt alternator and put in some thick wires to have the maximum electric flow. if your battery continues to die, maybe a turbo timer could be an option… in your case, it wouldn’t be used as a “turbo” timer but i think thats ok… its only rice if you’re doing it for the wrong reason.

My battery doesn’t ever die, I simply want a volts guage to keep an eye on it if say I leave my system running while the car is off I want to make sure it doesn’t die.

The reason I idle my car is not to charge teh battery but simply because I’ve always though it’s good to let it run a little, especially after driving hard to let it cool down and keep the oil flowing for a bit. Is this true ?

its YOUR car man…do w/e YOU think is cool…

Sorry but rocking a turbo timer in an NA car is ricey. People wont know you are using it for the sole purpose of checking voltage. Maybe if you mount it in your glove box or under your dash but in plain view – no go. If you ‘cooldown’ your NA car with it then thats gonna be even lamer.

Getting a 52mm voltage gauge and mounting it in your DIN somewhere isnt ricey, mounting on your a pillar is.

If you are going to display it where ppl can see it then I smell RICE which seems to me you want to stay far away from.

:werd:

Why don’t you just stick the volt gauge somewhere where only you can see it?

I mean how often do you need to keep an eye on the volt gauge? :ugh:

this is my two cents…anything that u put on ur car that does nothing…ie turbo timer on n/a car is rice

See, that’s what I did… :ugh: :noes:  :run:

lol thats cool but if ur really given her for fun in the country whats the use of the tac in the glove box? just curious cause i would find it hard to look at the glove box and at the road

its a cool spot and a good install!

IF you have a turbo timer for your sound system, means everytime your done listening your battery would get recharged and made sure it isnt drained and your car can turn on afterwards, just imo

Heh, well there’s times it’s not so ricey.

Like this one I saw, on an S2000. An S2000 that spends most of its day in the 11,000 rpm range. He actually needs to cool down his car, and he’s the kind of guy that just shuts off the car and hops out.

Yeah, but if you actually read my post it’s not for NOTHING… I was planning to use it as a volts meter…

And can someone answer teh question already please, whether it is useful or not to cool down an NA car ?

Well it seems to me that you really want it. It’s your car and you should do what you want with it. Btw, how often do you drive your car hard and what kind of system do you have?

I’m a ricer and i have a volt meter in my car. I paid $200 for it too. My car has stock speakers though.

I don’t drive it hard often. And my hard I don’t even mean hard, but if say I shift at 4-5 for w hile and then stop I’d feel guilty turning it off right away.

And I have 2 infiniti 10s powered by an 800 watt amp and my deck puts out 220 watts (max)

lol so there you go. you pretty much just answered your own questions. You don’t drive it very hard often… and by hard you mean 4000-5000rpm shifting + turning it off right away? I dont know why you would rev to 5000rpm and turn it off right away but… i dont think it should affect your car. And your system is 2 10s with an 800watts amp? you definitely don’t need a volt meter, you’ll be fine.

You will never need to ‘cool down’ a NA KA. Simple as that.
