well, i’ve been pretty busy with stuff lately, and not too much time to work on the car, but i made it out tonight. emptied the shop a little bit and cleaned a bit, and it’s nice having some elbow room while working on the car.
heres chucks firehawk preparing to get the tranny reinstalled…once it’s put back together that is. also, psychopjv’s block about ready to go next door to the machine shop:
got most but not all of the tub area removed. i’ve been putting it off because it is the most un-fun work you will ever do. and i won’t lie, it is a pain in the ass. but i am rather close on the driver side now. just have a little more to take out, then i need to square up the edges and smooth them out. then it will be time to install the tub. there has been a LOT of weight removed, surprisingly. it may not look pretty now, but the finished product will be very clean
i took the DA with some 80 grit to see what i’ll be dealing with when it comes time for body work. the panels that need repaint will be stripped bare again, done the right way. we used industrial show clear, which is VERY hard. as you can see, there is 6 layers here: clear, color, sealer, primer, body filler, and steel. this particular panel met some bushes when i first bought the car; it is the only one with bondo, but not a lot.
i cut out a slot for my boost controller with a dremel. it is a rough fit, still needs finishing touches.
i got a fantastic deal on a metal gas tank from JeremyNYR. i needed the sending unit only for the fuel level gauge, so i removed the pump. this tank will be sumped, and i will be running a magnafuel external pump rated at 2000hp. the tank is actually in very good shape, but the pictures make it out to be much worse than it is. there is only very light surface rust. after the sump is TIG’d in, the tank will be scuffed and painted
here is my wolfe 6pt weld in roll bar. the door bars are low slung, which is nice. the car really calls for a 10pt+ cage with a parachute, but i really didnt want to go that far. this should buy me some leniency at the track. afterall, im not looking to break any records. i can always buy add-on kits in the future, but i doubt i ever will
sandblasted the rear to get all the gas tank and other crap off of it. turned out great. i just primed it so it wouldn’t rust, but it will be sprayed black with a gun. not before we rebuild the rearend with new parts though. i also completely dismantled all my suspension parts today to get them ready for sandblasting. the blaster was giving me issues, so i said eff that, ill do it later. they will be re-powdercoated
here is psychopjv’s car loaded up to go back to where he works, where he’ll pick at it and clean up the underside this winter
i ordered this exact combo from mike at innovative this week… should be in next week. Corbeau black leather TRS’s with 3" 5pt camlock harnesses. should be decent
