considering selling this currently to possibly put toward a down payment on a newer vehicle. depends on what offers I get.
the good:
139k miles
5 speed
tons of fresh service, nearly all OEM parts or dealer maintenance (I get a Towne discount) as listed below:
new motor mounts (around 10k miles ago)
new pads and rotors all around (9k miles ago)
new radiator (9k miles ago)
pressure flushed coolant along w/ radiator (also 9k miles ago)
new shift knob (9k miles ago)
new fuel pump (6k miles ago)
new water pump/tstat (250 miles ago)
new driver side window regulator (250 miles ago)
new all new idler pullies on front end with all new belts (250 miles ago)
new battery (100 miles ago)
new alternator (100 miles ago)
transmission recently flushed, shifts like butter (1000 miles ago)
clutch has tons of life left in it, grabs perfect
starts fast, rides smooth
summer tires (pretty bald) on BMW Z3 16" throwing stars
winter tires (1.5 seasons fresh blizzaks all around) on BMW 15" steelies w/ hub caps
always on time oil changes for the few I’ve had to do to it
next to no rust
only a couple of miniscule body dings, hard to notice
the bad:
scrape on drivers side window tint from when the original window regulator broke and the arms bent
heat shield currently rattles
headlight covers can get a little fogged
crack on front lip on passenger side with some scuffing, also hard to notice
rip on driver side seat bolster, ala every 10+ year old BMW left around
the arguable:
keyless entry. works awesome when it works awesome. decides to have moods occasionally. I’m not aware of the origin. I disconnected the alarm horn because it had moods and decided that it wanted to be loud occasionally.
loud aftermarket exhaust from PO. bellows, real low sounding, loud as fuck in a good way. could be a deterrent to some, if I don’t get rid of the car I plan on removing it.
I live in the elmwood village area. ti stands for ‘touring // standard car’. all every standard car BMW has an i in it, the t makes it a hatchback, which are rare and generally tougher to come about.
nope, mine got stuck off of York near Richmond and it must have bent or loosened the heat shield because it rattles mostly at idle now, I don’t notice it when revving through the gears honestly, but I haven’t been doing much windows down driving.
make sure it’s not the chain slapping, although, I’d guess you’d hear that at idle too if that were the case.
speaking of which, recently had the timing chain inspected at the dealership, they said it was all solid to go and had been properly maintained and refused to change out the tensioners/guides after seeing what shape it was in. so, that to me means no woes for quite some time, as long as you change the oil on time.
would consider a trade or partial trade in either direction for a stock honda or a subaru. namely a hatch or wagon, in 5 speed. just want something with cheaper parts and more space. despite that statement, I would also consider a stock del sol, so I could show the world that I am a douchebag. this is serious.
update on the car:
unfortunately, a little more rust has shown up over winter. definitely not even nearly a significant amount for the age of the car, but you can see it creeping very slowly, because that’s what Buffalo does. also, the ABS/pad wear sensor lights are on. I’m well aware that the pad wear sensors are because I never put new pad wear sensors on the pads, but the ABS must be from a wheel speed sensor flaking out.
also, inspection is still good 'til November. forgot to mention that previously.
