Twin turbo Trans Am build and LSX swap Mustang hackery

:word:

Whats the disadvantage? You can build a 4l80e to handle just about anything and you retain overdrive for street ability and gas mileage

Not that it really matters, just asking… But is the auto much heavier than the 6spd ?

T56 is pretty heavy for a manual but yes the 4L80 is heavier.

The 4L80E is based off the 400. They can handle similar power loads… I would have got a 6L80E but thats just me

6500rpm? Ah ok, then you’ll need the OD. I was thinking you’d spin it closer to 7k.

You pick your gearing based on what ET you want and intended use. You want a street/strip combo. I’m guessing that you’d be very happy with an 8.90 ET out of it when it’s all turned up. To run an 8.90 you’ll need it to go 150mph. So 6500rpm at 150mph would make it 3250rpm at 75mph, and roughly 2816rpm at 65mph. Probably a little too much for thruway cruising. If you could take the engine higher, then you could run a lower rear gear.

A th400 sucks less power, weighs less, costs less, and there are a hundred converter companies out there that can build you a bulletproof converter. A 4L80 limits you a bit.

Now if you want it to ET better than that, at say 8.5, you’ll want it to go 160mph or so give or take. So 6500rpm = 160, and then 3250rpm= 80mph, and 65 would be around 2640rpm, and you wouldn’t need an overdrive for the thruway. Save you a lot of $$$$$$$$$$$

Lockup is what makes the RPM’s low cruising on the thruway, not so much the OD. At least with the 4L80 you can use the stock ECU, no need for separate computer and you can use a stock shifter instead of making an aftermarket one fit. The only thing that sucks is the big dollar converter, at least $1000 or more. Too much for cheap chooch.

16.4 psi - conservative air/fuel & timing

Some updates:

Tune is complete. Final numbers - 842/844 on 93/c12 mix for safety. Jay did a phenomenal job. The car drives like stock out of boost. Car has not ran this nicely since i have owned it.

Video:

clean pull graph

Also finally have a full exhaust again, thanks to Pat (PsychoPJv) at Elma Automotive and TurboLS1SS for donating a piece of the old firemaro exhaust.

Sexy ass thang  Great numbers

nice numbers.

curious though, the torque seems to really fall off, is that typical of these motors/boost? not too familiar with them, wondering if a different cam would keep that tq up.

Thanks! The setup is far from optimal. I have stock untouched 317 truck heads, stock LS6 intake/TB and the camshaft is a speed inc tu1 which is a 225/225, so on the small side. I think there is more power/tq to be had in some nice aftermarket heads and a larger cam. This is plenty of power for me for the time being, i have only driven it on 17psi once up the street and back

Seems pretty impressive for stock heads

Now there’s a sleeper, awesome! I want.

Here I am thinking you don’t make any power at 3k then I realize it almost 400 on the graph. Nice numbers, crazy how from 3k-4k you jump almost 200whp then 4k-5k its almost 300whp.

Yeah I remember someone making a comment that my power came on late with my 418+turbo setup but it was only cause it jumped so much after 4k. I think I made like 500ft lbs at 3k when someone said that. ha
