United States to seek a bid for a World Rally Championship Round

The Sullivan County Visitors Association and Rally New York, Ltd. have reached an agreement to pursue a bid for a future round of the World Rally Championship. Rally New York, Ltd. is seeking approval to submit a bid to the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) to host a World Rally Championship here in the Sullivan County Catskills. The FIA is interested in expanding the World Rally series especially with a location in the United States. The observation year would be slated for early 2007 with the actual event held from 2008 on an annual basis.

Rally New York, Ltd. has already received approval from the Town Supervisors of the towns where the championship would be held and legislative approval from Sullivan County. “We are very interested in bringing an automobile race of this importance to Sullivan County and fully support the efforts of this experienced promoter” stated Chris Cunningham, the Sullivan County Legislative Chairman. The Sullivan County Visitors Association is working hand in hand with Rally New York seeking public and private partnerships to sponsor the event. “A World Championship event of this caliber will give Sullivan County world recognition and a substantial boost to the economy of Sullivan County, the region and the entire State of New York” said Roberta Byron-Lockwood, President & CEO of the Sullivan County Visitors Association.

Ivan Orisek, President of Rally New York, Ltd. stated that the process is a two year venture with the first year being an observation event in which observers from the FIA would evaluate the rally to see if it meets specifications to be included into the World Rally Championship. The next year would be the actual event seen on TV by hundreds of millions of rally fans around the world. The economic effects of an event of this magnitude are millions of dollars during the event and residual millions due to the extreme exposure of the race.

Ed Jackson, Deputy Clerk of the Course added: “This is a culmination of our five-year effort to bring rallying in the United States out of distant wilderness inaccessible to spectators and to the vicinity of New York City.” Sullivan County Catskills is a resort area located only 90 miles northwest of New York City with excellent highway access.

Rally New York, Ltd. is already the promoter of Rally New York USA and International Rally New York, two of the eight events being held in the 2006 United States Rally Championship. Rally New York will seek support of ACCUS, the United States Affiliate of FIA, the United States Auto Club (USAC) and National Auto Sport Association (NASA) for the bid to the FIA.

that would be hot for a few reasons… most important one is its soooo closssseeee :tspry:

YYYEEEESSSS!!!

I am so there if this happens

you should have been there this year. WRC bandwagon jumpers!!! :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m going to watch for Rim and Ramada to jump on the bandwagon for this also, they have excellent locations close to major populations and outstanding stages. I personally think Cherokee trails would be the best, but is pretty far from civilization…

I had obligations :stuck_out_tongue:

You know I’d be there if this went through!

I just hope this happens, and if not in NY, somewhere in the US. Half the reason there isn’t as much draw to the international racing, such as WRC, MotoGP and F1 is because we have limited exposure to it (and when there is exposure, something happens like Indy this year).

If you build it, they will come.

There’s no way Ivan will pull that off. Cherokee tried for years, all the observation crap and didn’t even come close. It’s a much better location too. Kudos for trying though, but don’t expect to much.

RNY in Monticello is way to much of a dump and is too far from NYC to take advantage. Rim would have a much better chance, too bad Ray Hocker isn’t as hungry as Ivan. I still think we’re a ways off from a WRC round. It would be classic if a U.S. WRC stage was thrown because a local with his shotgun held up the cars, as in RNY '03. We’d really look like a bunch of cowboys. It would be like the good old days in the Safari rally (Africa) when bandits hijacked rally cars. WTF.

I think a more probable avenue to increase WRC exposure here, will come from a US or Canadian driver making it in WRC. When you get that, more people here will watch and then the sponsor money will follow. Then getting an event here would be more likely.

I guess we’ll see if that’s true, when Scott Speed gets a seat in F1. See if F1 get’s more popular.

I would love to see this go through. what specs will the committee be looking for, course length, elevation changes, terrain make-up? very interesting!

we need F1 at teh Glen

That would be very cool if it were to happen.

I only wish!!! 2 chances of that happening, Jack and Shit. And Jack’s left front tire blew on turn 13 at Indy!

lol

It’s a pipe dream.
Don’t forget we live in The United States of Litigation.
They would have to build…
Miles of concrete and foam barriers(built by union labor costing 5 times as much)
Miles of catch fencing (built by union labor costing 5 times as much)
Miles of emergency access roads (built by union labor costing 5 times as much)
Handicap parking (built by union labor costing 5 times as much)
ADA bleechers, etc (built by union labor costing 5 times as much)
Heli-pads and ambulances every .25 miles (built by union labor costing 5 times as much)
Pay 14,000 off duty state troopers doubletime for security.
Anti-terrorism HQ (built by union labor costing 5 times as much)
Metal detectors (built by union labor costing 5 times as much)
500 bathrooms (built by union labor costing 5 times as much)
Umbrella insurance coverage for $15,000,000,000,000,000.
50 New SUVs for state trooper’s “wilderness” patrol.
$2,000,000 GreenPeace payoff.
Etc
Etc
Etc

So maybe I am embelishing a bit but, let’s face it we are only allowed to host events this big in an arena that can corral us and control us.

fingers crossed

maybe we could get another date w/ that tranny

I think this has a better chance of happening than zwarbyt sending us our photos…

stfu i tried to u/l the zip to yousend it 3 times, it always times out

it wouldnt be a problem if lafingFAG didnt take 5 meg each pics

What are you waiting for?

:bsflag: I just uploaded a large iso file to dozer with no problems.

Where are the pictures?

Well since Scott Speed has already been confirmed a seat on the Red Bull team (old Minardi squad), I’m gonna be optimistic

i would love the chance to get to see that is it happend.

Please please please let us get a good motorsport event instead of California for once…
