Promising. Although if Mr. Big Business Romney were to get elected, you could mark this one signed.
Without too many smart-ass comments;
Are canadians able to do anything to help in this battle
or are we useless
New World Order… coming to a world wide web near you.
Nice try Joe, lol.
Romney (as well as most Republicans) are against this and here is video of him talking about it: Mitt Romney Slams SOPA [VIDEO] | Merrimack, NH Patch
… While your Democrat White House has said they want a bill THIS YEAR (2012) that addresses this:
“That is why the Administration calls on all sides to work together to pass sound legislation this year that provides prosecutors and rights holders new legal tools to combat online piracy originating beyond U.S. borders”
^^ Note the source of that quote.
This isn’t going to happen in current form, don’t get too worked up about it like the tin foil crew. This is simply part of a process where things are proposed and things are changed. The latest effort is the OPEN act ( http://keepthewebopen.com/ ) which tries to use current trade laws instead of creating “new legal tools” as the White House puts it.
Comparison chart from the website:
Will something eventually get passed? Maybe, but we’re a long way from Obama signing anything. But you can rest assured the current SOPA and Protect IP will not get through.
If Romney is against something now, he will probably be for it in a year. He doesn’t like to keep the same position too long. OPEN act sounds promising so that they can say they passed something and tell the industry to STFU. Haven’t looked at it too far in depth.
EDIT: Wikipedia joining the blackout wed :tup:
Romney has nothing to do with this. He’s not in congress writing or proposing the bills and he’s not in the White House to sign them into law. And since the Obama White House wants a reconciled bill before the election this issue will have been decided before anyone even votes for or against Romney.
The industry actually doesn’t like OPEN because they say the processes take too long. But they’re not going to get everything they want anyway.
Bump
i wish facebook would join in just because it be so nice to deprive all the addicts out there of it for one day.
I’m going to call Hochul and Schumer tomorrow to register my disapproval. I hope I’m not the only one.
I’ll call too.

Signed, also have my site “dark” as well…
<EDIT>
Oh yeah, and a site that’s always good for a chuckle going blackout
For those that don’t get it or don’t want to read here’s a video explaining this bill.
Rand Paul and Louise Slaughter are both tweeting opposition to these bills. LOL I think when the queen of socialism and the tea party’s golden boy are both against something you know it’s got to die.
TED video on it today:
I’m not sure if there is truth to this or just speculation:
Another :tinfoilhat: rumor I’ve heard is; say on nyspeed I make an anti-GM post, GM gets wind of this, and can have the site shut down or take legal action against this site’s owners. But, like I said RUMOR, and my example is exaggerated.
