Used Car registration in Ontario

Before you say check mto.gov, I did and there are bits and pieces of information not apparent.
So I buy a usd car, private sale , if the owner has a valid Cert and E-test , do I have to do my own or is this transferrable?
If I do my own, its done prior to registering the car at the MTO office and how do I take the car to the centre.
Transfer taxes, i can’t find anything online.
Someone with experience in this matter please help a youth out.

Sincerely,
Zac

for the purposes of an ownership transfer…

a safety certificate is valid for 36 days
an etest is valid for 1 year

so if the safety is less than 36 days old, and the etest was done less than 1 year ago, you just bring those to the ministry with you along with the car’s ownership (signed on the back by the current owner)

you have to buy a UVIP (used vehicle info package), which is $20, which you can do right there in the office when you go to transfer ownership

you dont have to actually bring the car to the licensing office

if it’s a private sale, you pay GST (5%) on the purchase price or the wholesale price, whichever is greater

that should cover everything

SPD-DMN, thank you.
Ontariolicensces.com has alot of helpful stuff.
For Private Sale :Can get the Canadian Red Book value of the car by calling MTO previous to going in ?
or does anyone know the value on a 2000 G20?

For Dealer Bought : the GST and PST are the taxes I pay I guess.

If you buy it from a dealer, they should do all this for you, you just go and take the keys and drive away with your “new” car.

So with this 5% GST on the higer of the two vlaues-
Can I just call MTO and find out the wholesale value of my car or does anyone have access to these values?

go to a kiosk and print the UVIP for $20

its something youll have to buy anyway

the wholesale price is listed on there

does anyone have the redbook value off the top of thier head of a 88 Auto Rx7?

ask the owner to write a lower bill of sale. that’ll help your insurance and taxes. and if the car is over 20 years old mto required appraisal done by a car dealer/someone with dealer license.
