My MK IV was a total piece of shit. This is only because previous owners of the car let things go on it and the car failed. I put quite a bit of work into it to keep it going but having the job I have I couldn’t afford to have as many issues with it as I was having so I unloaded it after I did the timing chains.
My MK III had it’s problems too, not nearly as many as my MK IV though. 1998 Sequioa Green Jetta VR6 GLX. I performed regular maintenance on it and took VERY good care of it until I sold it. From there, the car took a turn and is in pretty rough shape. I’d love to buy it back from the current owner if he was willing to sell it and get it back in good hands again.
My MK II was hands down one of the best cars I ever owned. 1990 Black 8v Jetta Coupe. I had very little problems with this car. I kept up on regular maintenance on it and racked up a ton of miles on it commuting back and forth from Philadelphia to Albany every weekend. The car got sold to a friend of mine and Brett’s. I was told by Brett when it was being stripped it had some pretty bad rust going on but mechanically the car held up fantastic for being a daily driver.
