A V8-powered Nissan Z in the Works?

Nissan reportedly has a solution for the midlife crisis set to strike the current 350Z sports car, launched three years ago: the 450Z.

The added hundred on the name plate would come courtesy of swapping the standard Z’s 3.5-liter V6 mill for Nissan’s corporate 4.5-liter V8 that powers several Infinitis in the U.S. market, such as the M45 and Q45 sedans and the FX45 SUV.

In Z guise, however, that unit could be tuned for upwards of 400hp, bringing the Z into Corvette and Porsche territory performance-wise.

So far the uber Z remains a rumor, but according to British magazine Autocar, Nissan “seriously considering” building it.

mmm I love 350z’s

Pshhht… Just stuff the 300ZX motor in there and boost the shit out of it.

isnt the V8 the planned powerplant for the GT-R which is based off the 350z/g35 platform?

indeed, but it wouldnt be a 350z

a 450Z would def be hot

I would have liked to see them put in their 4.0 liter V6 in there for the 35th anniversy. Insteed they delivered 13 more hp and a yellow color to make your eyes bleed.

The V8 is fine if they can keep the wieght under 3200, otherwise it will be a pig like every other Z to wear the Nissan badge.

The first year z is still the best, from a sports car purist’s point of view…

But if it ends up under 3200, it will be very similar to a Corvette from a power-to-weight standpoint. However, they need alot more tire on the car if they want to compete with a Corvette.

top secret built a 4.5 Liter Twin Turbo V8 g35 and call it a skyline…and Dex no one knows for sure what it gonna power the next gen skyline…rumors range from 4.5 v-8…3 liter TT…3.5 liter TT and so on…but yea if they can drop in a V8 into the 350z and keep it under 3200 it would be even more fabulousof a car…

i agree with the above statements that a v8 z under 3200 lbs would be sick

Not going to happen. A Z with more power would take sales away from the new GTR.

i read something about how the corporate 4.5 liter v-8 is most likely going to be in the new Z. Supposedly it’s so the motor can be homologated for use in other motorsports besides Super GT where you can already use it think? (i know the supras are running 4.0?-5.0?'s v8’s in the 500hp class. i think you can use any motor in the chassis as long as it’s sold commercially in one of the vehicles of that manufacturer of course.

As far as the skyline i don’t think it’ll go the all motor/luxury route rumoured to go (think a Nissan equivalent to an M5) and stick more to it’s ball’s to the wall’s performance, and nissan’s winning formula of boost, aggressive suspension and tons of performance do-dads and electronic trickery. Definitly better be boosted though (it must be!! RB30dett plz!?)

Here’s another theory on the new skyline motor maybe even the Z

What is the 3.2 liter V6? Is that the engine used for JGTC or something? It is not currently in production; is it? I have just seen that number quite a few times and curious about that engine.
The 3.2L V6 would just be a different version of the VQ-series engine that made its US debut in 1995.
The VQ32 is not in production yet. However, it would not be too difficult to build your own using factory parts. Here’s how:
A VQ35 block is bored .2L greater than a VQ30. The rest of the increase comes from added stroke. So, replace the VQ35 crank and rods with those from the VQ30, and you have a VQ32 engine. The VQ was always an oversquare(bore > stroke) design, and a VQ32 would be especially so. It should love to rev.
The VQ used in the JGTC(now known as Super GT) is a twin turbo 3L. The VQ30DETT first saw action in the R34 Skyline during the 2003 season. The R34s using the VQ not only won the driver’s championship but also the manufacturer’s title. A nice swan song, since it was the last year for the R34 Skyline to be used. Now the VQ is used in the Z33 Fairlady Z, a chassis that has put the VQ to even better use.
The GT-R should use an updated form of the FM platform(its already much stiffer than the older GT-Rs), so it should really scream.

4.5 liter v-8 in an updated Z chassis & body? Torque you later hater.
^ that’d be some shit to take out Rhys Millen and his (EW!@ yellow goat baaaa)

VQDETT will most likely hit the next GTR, however i wish for a RB30DETT and no sequential turdbow’s

these have been the most common/popular/make alot of sense theorys’ on the new Z/Skyline Motors, most likely boost for Skyline and Torque for the Z car

Ahh, yes. The same brilliant logic that keep SR20DET powered cars out of the U.S.

:word: …that’d be hot

Z’s have almost always been fat pigs, i dont see this one being any different…i dont think Nissan has ever taken weight into consideration when trying to make a sports car, and that i must say is the ONLY thing i dislike about my car…

and i also dont think we’ll ever see this 450Z here in the states…for the same reasons we never saw the Skylines…sadly

Exactly, Nissan would cut their own legs out from under them.

I have to disagree - where the z is a pure 2 seater sportscar, the g coupe is a 2+2 - that line is pretty clear. i dont believe that people are buying the g over the z simply for better performance.

Give me a V8-powered Z over that new GTR any day…

Yes, but we’re talking about the GTR, not the G35.

No, but they are because it looks a hell of alot better.

If Nissan want s to play with the big boys again, (corvette and porsche) The need 400hp+. Weather it comes from a TT verrsion of the VQ or a V8. Frankly I’m surprised they sell as many as they do seeing as they are pretty gutless stock. Low 14’s not gunna cut it for a sports car in '05.

that could make for an interesting development

this man speaks the truth…right now the only thing the z is good for is a tuner car. but is cannot perform with the big boys, we need something more whether its gtr or v8 z
