One of my college buddies is a lawyer and an investigator now for the Chicago public schools. So, when you see cases like sex with a student, he is one of the people that gets paid to check it out. Anyway…
A few days ago I was out at a CPS high school and noticed a car in the drivers’ education lot that sort of looked like similar to a Ford GT. It wasn’t being used as a driver’s ed. car but it was locked in the same fenced in area. I figured it was some sort of kit car. It wasn’t in great shape (interior looked ripped up and a back tire was missing) but it was pretty cool looking.
So yesterday I had to go back to the school and while I was there I spoke to the driver’s education teacher. I asked what kind of car the red sports car was, assuming it was a kit car. He said it was a Valkyrie. I asked what company made it. He said he made it and it’s not a kit car. He said back in the 1970s he and his friends designed, built and sold about 60 Valkyries. He said he designed the fiberglass body, built the frames and used, I believe 283 c.i GM engines bored to either 302 or 305. He said the car used 2nd generation Corvair suspension.
He said something like he flipped the drivetrain so the car would be a mid-engine sportscar and it weighs about 1800 lbs. So, I asked him what happened to the Valkyrie. He said after selling about 60 cars the federal government contacted him and told him they needed 10 cars for crash tests. He said he and his buddies couldn’t afford to make 10 cars to crash and so they sold the design to a company called Fiberfab. He said as far has he knew Fiberfab still owned the rights to the Valkyrie and still sells Valkyrie kits. Here’s Fiberfab’s webpage:
