Kit cars.. replicas or knockoffs?

So my buddies dad is talking about getting a kit car of a 64 cobra and building it up over the winter/spring.
Kit cars always looks cheese IMO but i understand if you love a car but will never be able to afford the real thing. so sometimes i guess the best option is a kit.
i dont know, i would love to have a 250 gt berlinetta but i would fell like an ass is some knockoff so i wouldn’t do it.

you?

i want a lancia stratos, and apparently top gear said they make a kit car version.

im SO DOWN for one.

I grew up around tons of kit cars, my step dad has 3 molds for Cobras, and a few other molds. They always look good in the end, and making them helped fund all his racing. (Top fuel funny car)

only way to do a cobra replica.

Factory fve is bullshit, and ruining business of all the oldschool builders.
There finding worms wholes to get cars built , and the chasis are bullshit.
My step dad builds them race ready.
The chasis and the body anyway.

I heard factory fives chasis are garbage

factory five is the biggest kit car manufacturer in the world, and they have their own racing series, i guess its because they build garbage and nobody knows any better,

gee i hate to see how they pieced together the supercar they sell, and make it out perform modern day exotics at 3 and 4 time the prices, but im sure they fudge the numbers to make it look better than what it actually is

Everyone can have an oppinion, you don’t have to be rude.

Why do you think there so great?

lol +1

Stop confusing me

im not being rude, just giving my opinion

they are great because of the practicallity of the kit, they have a tech line for any problems you may have, they offer a build school to assist in the building of their car ( which i have been too). If anybody is doing research on building one of these cars , they will soon know how much r&d went into these cars to make them what they are. also 5 factory five is reconnized by many insurance companies for the quality of there kits making them very easy to insure.

also they are cool as hell and fast as fu@k even with the stock 302 efi they run mid to high 12s in the quarter

Kit cars are a good way to make a fool of your self!!!

Just like the way I made a fool of who ever was driving this Ferrari 355 kit car:

^ I beat this car on the QEW with my 1991 Buick lasabre!!!

It has a Pontiac Fiero engine lol!

Yeah kit cars are all nice and dandy till some guy blows your doors off in a K car lol… as for the young ones who don’t know what a K car is google it.

the kit car lifestyle isn’t about racing for the most part it’s about the journey from POS to pretend dream car… I think attention to detail is very important when it comes to kit cars.

my buddy is actually making that same car over this winter…but hes gonna have a 3800 supercharged in it…

^tell your buddy to buy my gtp 3800supercharged

Don’t be a pussy.

Buy a real Shelby Cobra.

i think building a kit car would be fun but in the end if your going to do it i’d think swapping the engine up for something more powerful would be worth the time and cash too if your already going to completely rebuild a car onto a platform you might as well go all out with it

It doesn’t have to beat what its imitating but at least so you don’t get spanked by a sun fire with a spoiler on the rear or a Honda with a set of aftermarket rims on just the rear(I’ve seen it)

And now a Second version off the 1999-2005 corvette

Lets say you come across a vette that’s been in a accident that is going for cheap, even if it doesn’t have the engine that the vette came with pick up a ls1 off Kijiji or a eBay or where ever you can find one build it up make your kit and drop that in … would probably haul ass.

hes already got one sitting in his garage for it…

i wanted to do the factory five gtm… but i think there was an issue when i was doing my home work on registering it in ontario. If im wrong please correct me… I do believe there is a company in BC that builds there kit for you

and i believe a company in Cali does kits for Mr2’s that make them look like modern lambos and ferrari’s looked pretty good to, maybe i’ll find the link if anyone cares

I’m split on kit cars, I think it’s really cool to have a kit car of a classic, that is impossible to find nowadays, but I think it’s really gay to have a kit car of a modern car.
I think it’s cause with a classic, it’s the love of the car, and wanting to have something that is no longer available. When you do a kit car for a modern car, you’re just a poor poser that wants people to think he has a Ferrari.

I can agree to this^
