Got my valve cover off no problem, it’s off being painted. Just curious when replacing the gasket should I use RTV or not, if so what kind? Also is there a certain pattern the bolts should be put back in, and torque specs? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
you for sure should buy a replacement gasket do no use RTV or it will leak
replaced the gasket, apparently you should use a bit of RTV to keep the gasket from leaking.
Should use new gasket for sure. The bolts must be tightened evenly without asymmetry, so, I’d suggest tightening them in order similar to how you tighten the head studs, starting from the center, applying force similar to one when you use a screwdriver.
i use rtv to help with the seal on mine. no problems!
I’ve never had to use RTV on any valve cover gasket replacement… never had any problems. You shouldn’t have to use it, unless one of the mating surfaces is crap, or the gasket is used or something.
