I have noticed more in the warmer weather that situations like merging on the highway that right around 3k RPMs, my 3 will pull harder than in lower RPMs.
Its really noticeable and curious if something is slipping or if its some sort of variable timing. I cant seem to find any specs about timing or anything with the 2.3 engine. I can not hear any sounds or anything and all my fluids look good.
Suggestions or things to try? I know my even my sunfire pulled a little harder in the higher RPMs as it got closer to red line but it seemed smoother and gradual compared to this.
If your tranmission was slipping, you would probably feel it at other times. It is probably just a wacky poweband. Sure you’re not just feeling the car downshift?
Ha just got out and driving more. Car sucked in the winter with the summer tires on it so didnt bother driving it much. Not that I can actually take it out I found this out.
Our cars are slightly different, but I found the same thing. I have the speed3 so its turbblowed but there is noticeable bogging at low RPMs due to super pig rich Air/Fuel.
This is a common complaint among the Mazda3 community, turbo’d or not.
If you read my first post, you would have seen that I said its not the gradual increase and pull as RPMs increase that most cars to (ie even my sunfire did).
Ok just curious becuase like I said, at 3k it really hammers and is very noticable.
Auto’s use clutch packs (just friction discs) that grab together. A Manual is actual gears. There’s a lot more to it but that’s the basics. When the auto’s friction discs wear it can slip. Other things can cause it too but let’s not get too fancy.
Well what about a manual that someone in theory grinds the shit out of the gears non stop. Woundn’t that wear out the teeth on the gears and cause it to slip (or something similar) or is the “slipping” only on the clutch pack in the auto and the actual clutch in the manual?
If the gears on a manual break or are worn it just won’t stay in gear. It’ll pop out of gear or not even engage. An auto can slip from many things like a worn torque converter, worn clutch packs, low fluid, bad actuator, weak band, etc can all cause it. On a manual it’s just the clutch.
