I cycle on and off of the original depending on my lifting schedule.
What’s your goal? Are you just looking to be healthier?
If so then the best thing you can do is first make sure you have a really good, consistent, balanced diet. After that, adding a men’s one-a-day should do you just fine. Really though, your diet will be the most important thing to focus on.
That being said I just take a one-a-day. Probably more out of habit than necessity though
a friend that works at feel-rite recomended these
depends. there are many different types of ways to use multivitamins, and most of them are different.
some people use them because they can never find the time to eat enough or properly, so they want to make sure they are getting everything they need. in this respect, the typical 1-a-day or centrum is fine.
other people use multivitamins because of weight training. they have mv’s for this that have much more B-vitamins (which are responsible for extracting energy from your food) to give you a bigger energy boost, large amount of thiamine (B1), sometimes an amino-acid compound for rebuilding muscles. some of these you even take 3-tabs a day. i take opti-men and found that ONLY IF you eat somewhat properly throughout the day, they become most beneficial. like i said, a lot of people think if they don’t eat properly they should make up for it by taking mv’s. from personal experience, if you don’t eat properly, the mv’s don’t work properly.
something like this would work better for someone training and sweating a lot rather than a 60-year old who sits at home all day, right?
so find the reason you want to start taking them and look up which one is best for that goal.
bodybuilding.com articles are great and you can learn a lot, check it out if you haven’t already
-Generic multivitamin (self explanatory)
-2000 IU Vitamin D (because we live in WNY, almost everyone living here is deficient in Vitamin D. Lack of sunlight reduces the production of the only vitamin humans can produce. Bone, muscular and immune health)
-B complex (energy, lots of it)
-Vitamin C 500mg chewables (they are delicious, you can’t overdose on vitamin C, they are water soluble so I spread them out to three times a day so I don’t piss them out all at once. Mega doses of vitamin C is not just good for your immune system but extremely helpful to your liver. Your liver is the only organ on your body that can fully heal itself and large amounts of vitamin C benefit this. The only downside to mega doses is that it can cause diarrhea something I have not experienced yet. You would have to take somewhere in the range of 12,000 to 20,000 mg to experience that.
-Fish oil (for omegas 3-6-9, something that is lacking in the typical american diet due to food being highly processed. Many people take it for heart health however the more important benefit of Omegas is nervous system health. Omega fats act as lubricant for your nerves helping to improve signal processing between dendrites and axon terminals. It’s extremely important for proper mental health.
-Acidophilus (DIGESTIVE SYSTEM HEALTH!!! The most important system of the body that gets the least amount of attention. We are born with a finite amount of gut flora. Our bodies cannot absorb the food we eat, so the gut flora or friendly bacteria breaks the food down and the waste from the bacteria is what we absorb. As we age these can die off, things like radiation, alcohol, natural aging and anti-biotics can kill them off, this is why they tell you to eat yogurt after finishing up a round of anti-biotics. When they die off our ability to digest food properly is lowered causing undigested food to pass through your system, rot, turn to gas etc. The less flora, the more undigested food, the less absorbed nutrients, greater the risk of infections, cellular damage, degenerative conditions if not already genetically predisposed.)
I’m never sick. I’m in perfect health according to my doctor. Thankfully
A multivitamin, acidophilus and some superzyme things for my tummy.
Gotta watch out what vitamins you take,FDA is always finding all kinds of harmful metals/minerals in them and most of them dont break down properly and you just pass them out whole.Lots of posts on bodybuilding.com about vitamins.
These are good, company is known for making quality supps…
Good point Jon, beware anything not listed as USP.
The most important thing you can do is eat well. GRASS FED meat and wild fish, veggies, a little fruit. Some nuts if you’re not worried about fat loss.
To supplement that, I take:
5000 IU Vitamin D daily
0.5 gram per pound of body weight of EPA/DHA from fish oil. (Only the total EPA/DHA counts, ignore the total higher number advertised on the front of the bottle.) Yeah it’s a ton of pills, but as I get closer to my goals I’ll cut that in half. (Better sleep, better energy, better digestion, loss of spare tire will come from proper diet over the course of a few months.)
For now Nowfoods Superenzymes after every meal. Probably keep that up for a month or two.
Melatonin at night.
