VW Helms?

helms doesnt make a book for the VW. where do you guys get the manuals from?

germany i’m guessing :stuck_out_tongue:
probly the actualy VW ones i’d guess you can usually order them from a dealership online is better … try e-gay

Actually the dealers don’t offer them, not even to repair shops. So if you want it done right guess you better go to the dealer. Great for them to make $$, but kinda sux for the consumer if you ask me.

they are like 120 online. i will just order it on cd for like 10.

sounds right for v-dubya.

:mamoru:

Bently publishers, you can usually find them for about $85-ish. WOrth every penny…you will see

i need some basic how to’s for tomorrow. basic tune up crap for a 96 passat vr6. these plugs and shit look like a real bitch.

edit:
oh, and is this thing supposed to feel the same at 3k rpm as it does up to redline? it doesnt feel like its making anymore power up there. from the charts i saw of a vr6 i would think it would feel a little better up top. just wondering if i should do a compression test and leak down just incase.

i got mine used off vwvortex for $40 shipped. and it has been worth every penny…

you know how to read? or do you want a pic book?

i have been reading that forum all day/ my fucking eyes are bleeding. oh, and i have been drinking just as long

i hate you

bentley is the best. I call my Audi 80/90/coupe manual “The Bible” here is their website: http://www.bentleypublishers.com/

check around on ebay. they can be had inexpensively as jam said.

ah i was gonna mention bentley might make em for dubs too

they do bimmers, and very good ones at that

 its not a honda and your not gonna feel the vtech kick in, no matter how long you wait. The lower end torque you should be able to feel though.

The plugs are a bit of a pita to get the wires off since they are sooo far down in the manifold, they make a tool for it. What year is the car? obd1 or 2? just curious…

Jeller

yes they do thats where i got my last two

i need muuh vee tak attack sukka
yea, it gets up and goes up to 3500, after that it just feels flat.

anywho

its a 96 obd2

edit: list of problems i have found so far.

driver side heated seat doesnt work - under seat relay?
driver side window doesnt roll up or down - clips?
check engine light - have to pull codes. i was told the o2 was bad, and replaced; however, it hasnt reset yet
abs light - either the abs unit (i hope not) or a sensor on the wheel
air bag light - she said the steering wheel had been take off and put back on (her husband did it) i assume he f’d up a connector or the coil thing in the steering wheel. i think i saw something about just jumping it with a resistor. anyone know what resistor i need?

oh, and the vag-com (uh huhhuhuhu i said vag) is it worth the 250. it looks pretty nifty

ironic…

that i sold a fast car for a slow one that has all sorts of reliabilty issues with the windows, heater core, heated seats, suspension bushings, igntion coil, and all sorts of other stuff.

yea. kinda

oh, but it does have heated seats. honestly… its the only reason i bought it. i paid 2500 to keep my ass warm basically.

now, help me fix this pos or you’re banned

 [evil voice] my how the tables have turned [end evil voice]

nice buy

Was this car for you or your gf?

Heated seat is done if its not working. Its probably not a relay. The little thin coils that run through the seat are probably worn down and no longer continuous. Its pretty easy to pull the skin off of the seat and check the coils to see what condition they are in.

I know by the numbers the VR6 looks better, but honestly a daily beater 2.slow is much cheaper to repair/maintain and much more reliable. I know its too late now.

Drivers side window problem is probably the regulator. Do you hear noise when you press the button or nothing at all? I have a couple of window regulators laying around for a B3 Passat if you need one. Not sure if they are compatible with the B4 Passat, pretty sure they are.

Your 02 sensor is bad? Isn’t the car OBDII? So you have 2 of them right? There are a lot of V-dub guys around with the VAG COM that I’m sure wouldn’t mind pulling the codes and helping you out. That year VR6 I’m pretty sure has the coilpack ignition instead of the distributor. They tend to crack from the heat and you have to replace them often. Thats what happens when you stuff a 6 cylinder inside the space a 4 cylinder normally sits.

Buy the Bentley in paperback form. Search the Vortex for a used copy. It sucks on CD and all of the other manuals suck. I have a copy of the Bentley for B3 and B4 Passats somewhere in my office. I can make you a copy.

the car is for me. i sold the hatch to pay off my debt

the window doesnt just totally fall, it seems to only slid down on the one side. i dont think it makes noise, i will have to double check.

i switched the relay over, so i guess we will see. i hope its just the relay.

the CEL is off, they turned the car on with the O2 unpluged :bloated: cleared the codes and all is well.

i have to pull the door apart this week and look at whats fuct. i will pm you about the reg if i need one.
