its all personal preference. main reason ka is turbo’ed is cuz its already on the car and if you put money into it. you save the money that would cost to buy a sr and the labor money to swap it in. but if you had both engines sitting out of the car and both came with the car. ppl would usually choose sr becuz it comes stock faster already.
Yeah but here is the issue. Everyone who goes KA-T wants a turbo, so when that KA-T setup doesn’t work out…what do they do? They go SR.
I think almost everyone I know with the exception of 1 person who has gone KA-T, has gone SR after.
So in the end, you spend $1000 - $2500 + all this work to get your KA-T running. And then when it messes up, you spend $3000 - $4000 to go SR and have to do more work + have the hassle of selling your previous ka-t setup to someone.
And the cycle continues.
Seriously, think about it. How many people do you know that had gone KA-T and after failing, went back to a completely stock NA KA? (In the same car)
walter! s14! lol
and im pro to sr rather then ka-t so yes in long run if u go sr u save the money. but in short run , its a valid reason why ppl do it. (for the cheap ka-ts not built ones) and sr is most reliable stock, but any engine is reliable stock since their made to last at least 300k km
also not all sr are bulletproof stock, as sr have blown aswell, if you buying a sr from a importer, what history do u know has gone through the sr lifetime? maybe it was beaten the crap outa it with no oil changes and dont even know
just putting ideas for ppl to debate. as im at work ka vs sr is debate that is regardless of explainations and good points of the other engine. my other post still states is just coems down to personal preference
On a side note, I love these kinds of threads. I’m glad we have a search function. The OP could have either bumped an ancient thread or created a new one - it’s a lose-lose choice.
“for posted stupid shit” not only do i not think thats a tottaly correct statment but i and many other may have thought it was usefull this board is in fact here to talk about 240’s and the engines we want in them so i would like to know where u get off saying he should be banned cause ur the one “posted” stupid shit
how is varun going to sleep at night if we start going ka-t, dont be stupid guys, sr over ka all day… a stock sr swap is around 3500 dollars, a properly build ka-t swap should cost close to the same…
THE MAIN THING IS, YOU CANT COMPARE A BUILT MOTOR TO ANY BUILT MOTOR BECAUSE THERE ARE 1000HP SRS AND KAS AND B16’s AND ALL SORTS, STOCK TO STOCK SR WINS
once you start building a motor your changing the way it was from factory and the comparison goes out the window-
some good points here but yea its nice to go out and buy a stock SR and drop it in so u have some nice power while u built ur KA b/c in the end the ka has way better bottom end due to the high comprestion ratio but yes once u start chaging the motor there is really no way to compare in the end both motors rock this is why we are all on this board casue nissan kicks ass
Season…Walter is only going back to a na KA because he wants to sell his car. His S14 will be worth more or just as much as it having a KA-T installed.
And for the clown who says that it’s good information…
You are obviously biased because the information itself is biased. They don’t even know what they are talking about and it’s an article that is leaning towards going KA-T.
timing
ka: Standard Cam timing
sr: Variable Cam Timing
verdict: VTC is a great way to make power, but there aren’t really that many choices when it comes to VTC-compliant cams. The SR wins when it comes to this feature. But since most tuners use non VTC cams, it’s not by much.
It’s obvious that they are taking a stab at the S14 SR motor, but guess what? There are actually cams that are VTC compliant. Also, 99% of people who do an SR swap go with an S13 SR motor, so it’s the exact same thing. But good luck finding a wide variety of cams for the KA. I know there are good ones for the KA, but let’s not get into that debate.
boost
ka: Naturally Aspirated (N/A)
sr: turbo
verdict: Alright, this is the deal breaker. Sure there is no replacement for displacement, but when you add forced induction into the equation, all bets are off. This is the core of the power behind the SR. Our KA will be addressing this with an HKS T51R SPL turbo.
Okay, so what they are trying to say is that, by the end of everything…the KA has been equivalent and/or better than the SR in some ways. The only thing is that KA is N/A. So they say that they are going to put in a T51R… lol
Could it not be biased enough?
And it’s taken from Import Tuners. I think that alone should be enough to discredit their information.
it is a little bias but it is still a comparison it isnt right to compare a n/a to a turbo then say the n/a will have double the turbo and yea this debate can go on and on
