honestly, it’s probably not worth it. IF you do need help though… lmk, I can run all kind of flow tests here at work with a crude mock up of a manifold [3d model]
If anything, I’d go with some turbo specific cams/full exhaust (if you dont have it already) and maybe some mild head work.
or just say fuck it and pick up the RWD, 302 v8 conversion… that thing will HAUL some ass lol
yep
i think im gonna do it over winter, if hotrod will give me a hand
y not just pick up an svt manifold
good luck doin it,
just remember ford has thousands of hrs in research by professionals to make the best possible manifold based on hi-tech scientific flow data…so dont get ur hopes up and dont spend too much money on it…
not tryin to get u down just tryin to save u time/money…
seems like more trouble than its worth…
but at the same time could be fun in some downtime
Post pics if you do it :tspry:
Their design isn’t concerned with top perormance. Hence, posting the stock manifold yeilds 7 hp, and the fact that they offer a more perfomance orientated aftermarket manifold. Their OEM manifold is designed to be manufactured cheap and for engine economy (emissions).
when nick makes a manifold that performs better than the factory one that FORD motor company makes, then u can laugh, until then, dont open ur mouth,…
no offence nick…i wish u the best of luck
What if you bought the Ford Racing one and ported it? I’m sure it would be stronger then your stock plastic piece and maybe you could get more gains if you ported it more then it already is…
i have an extra 2000 intake manifold if you want it its missing one nipple and is already ported. you should really port your head and get some stage one cams or mcnews custom turbo cams. the stock head is the biggest restriction point in flow it sucks bad and if you buy the for racing head make sure you get it ported because it just has bigger valves in it and is just a new casting. if you are goin to get a ported head get one from turbo tom because right now is the only one that really knows his shit about these motors. you can get 500 horse from a ported 2000 intake mani if you wanted plus im still running the stock tb just proted it and my head since my car been down. i have lots of extra crap laying around just in case you want another head.
Dude, it is not hard to make better components than factory. Just because Ford made it doesn’t make it some mythical top performance piece. That is why there is such an aftermarket for cars. If factory shit was so great why did you build your bottom end for boost?
I didn’t open my mouth here anyways, I typed .
stock manifold are not designed for performance, especially on an economy car. where did you get this crazy idea?
if this were the case, every aftermarket company out there may as well shut down now.
they are designed for cost, fuel efficency, and ease of assembly/manufacturing.
i will bet you your car that my basic manifold idea that i posted would make more power, and cost very little to make. why? because making a decent manifold isnt rocket surgery; however, making the best/perfect manifold is.
but the stock piece is a far cry from best, or perfect.
i think you should do more reading about the subject before posting in this thread again.
i agree with this part of your statement. endyn talked about a couple focus heads larry did some work on. the forum is down now (because of drama… see we arent the only ones that hate it) but he mentioned that the stock heads need a lot of help.
Boostedfoci…how much you want for the ported '00 mani? and do you have pice of whats missing? i have a spare motor, and was hoping to have enough money come springtime to build the bottom end and have the head totally re-worked with ferrea valves, crower springs and retainers, and mcnews custom turbo cams. i hope i nail down a better job to really go all out, i want to take my focus to a crazy level and run with the fast hondas and hopefully make some impressive kills and earn some respect.
to some people respect is more important
j/k bud
gotta agree. Being in the automotive buisness on the production side of things, even the most mundane shit gets looked at/engineered to perform how it’s intended. Lots and lots of time and $$$ are spent in R&D (same goes for aftermarket too).
good luck brother  lets us know how it goes.
is that “7 hp improvement” figure on a boosted or on an n/a application ?
im also going to say that the runners on the ford mototsorts
“performance intake” look like they still to long for good top
end power
take for example that 1g / 2g talons go from this :

if they were designed for NA, they are probably tuned to take advantage of the 2nd 3rd and 4th harmonic
i’ve been searcing around for calculations to make it as good aspossible, one thing i found talked about internal velocity stacks…how do i make those and is it a big gain?

buy and or make something like these. you should be able to find these/something like them cheaper.
