what?! no K20!? this list is BS

exactly what i was thinking :lol

What a terrible list.

Why do u say that, Tim?

Woohoo for the 4.6! :tong

WTF?! How did it even make the list?!

First of all, I’m glad you guys made it back finally! Sounds like you had some unexpected hurdles :headbang

I mainly have a problem with these:

DaimlerChrysler AG Hemi Magnum 5.7L OHV V-8
DC’s Hemi V-8 wins its fifth consecutive Ward’s 10 Best Engines award.

Ford Motor Co. Duratec 35 3.5L DOHC V-6
Thrusty and refined all-new Ford 3.5L V-6 wins its first Ward’s 10 Best Engines award.

Ford Motor Co. 4.6L SOHC V-8
Ford’s 4.6L SOHC V-8 gets even better, with an extra 25 hp in Shelby GT trim.

Toyota Motor Corp. 3.5L DOHC V-6
With impressive power and fuel economy, Toyota’s 3.5L DOHC V-6 is a shining example of a premium V-6.

If this is the pinnacle of engine design then engineering is in a sad state, between inefficiency compared to its peers in terms power related to displacement and TERRIBLE fuel economy these are not specimens of “pushing the envelope.”

…and don’t like the ambiguity of this:
Nissan Motor Co. Ltd. 3.5L DOHC V-6
Nissan adds to its VQ V-6 legend with an unprecedented 13th consecutive Ward’s 10 Best Engines honor.

Which VQ 3.5 are they talking about?? the DE or HR? I’ve owned a car with the HR and have driven dozens with the DE both left me uninspired, while they are putting out a lot of power for their size they make a very metallic sound and get pretty poor fuel economy. If it were my list and I was trying to be international my list would include:

General Motors Company 7.0 pushrod V8
Chevrolet builds on the legendary LS series V8’s with the king kong of pushrod V8’s in the special trim Z06 corvette.

Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG 3.6L Flat 6
First turbo car(in this case twin turbo) to utilize variable turbine geometry, producing biblical power from a very average size engine.

Tesla Motors, inc. 3-phase, 4-pole electric motor
The first revolutionary “motor” in ages, 248hp, max torque available from 0-6,000 RPM’s, redline at 13k RPMs and it weighs 45lbs

I’d have to think about it some more to come up with one or two more, I would probably let the VQ remain on the list just because it is very efficient in terms of HP:Liter

coming from the guy that blew his up :lol

Subaru won best engine in their category, not best overall.

Here is the whole list of 2006 winners:
Best New Engine: Volkswagen 1.4-litre TSI Twincharger
Best Fuel Economy: Toyota 1.5-litre Hybrid Synergy Drive
Best Performance Engine: BMW 5-litre V10
Sub 1-litre: Honda 1-litre IMA
1-litre to 1.4-litre: Volkswagen 1.4-litre TSI Twincharger
1.4-litre to 1.8-litre: Toyota 1.5-litre Hybrid Synergy Drive
1.8-litre to 2-litre: Volkswagen 2-litre FSI Turbo
2-litre to 2.5-litre: Subaru 2.5-litre Turbo
2.5-litre to 3-litre: BMW 3-litre Twin Turbo Diesel
3-litre to 4-litre: BMW M 3.2-litre
Above 4-litre: BMW 5-litre V10
International Engine of the Year 2005: BMW 5-litre V10

BMW got 5 of the 12 categories. Does BMW even make an engine that would be in the 2.0 - 2.5 liter category?

it was th 06 that won… the 04 was the red headed step child :headbang

oh… point taken :crackup

Hater. :lol

funny we had a stock 2.0 liter k series putting out roughly the same power with tuning.

Fhuk Honda

definitely

i think the old z3 might have been a 4cyl in that range but thats long gone

who the F is Ward?

Without the cat c15 3406-3408 etc life would have ended
