Not all Rolex owners are like that, but the initial expectation is that they are not enthusiasts. It’s a great brand, but I don’t love the brand image.

Rolex is often a total poser watch. On account of the strength of the brand it’s the watch that people buy who want a nice watch but aren’t interested at all in watches… i know dozens of people like that. They don’t even know what model of Rolex they bought. All they know is that it’s a Rolex and how much it cost.

I would not want to be mistaken for one of those people. Although, i will most certainly own rolex’s at some point in the next few years.

Whereas with an Omega, it’s not quite as expensive, even though they are trying to get there, but when someone spots your Omega they know you’re into watches as well. And everyone who owns an Omega knows exactly what model it is. I have had business associates from target accounts notice my Cal 265. in meetings. It sparked an important conversation.

It was quite obvious that i was into watches owning such an obscure Omega, whereas, had i had a Rolex on they would simply have assumed my dad bought it for me… ya feel? Kinda like that Cartier Joe…

People that own Rolex’s aren’t always stupid as you portray them to be. However, you are right it is the universal “expensive” watch everyone wants. I guess you could say that’s effective marketing.

I’ve heard many times of that happening where people go to an interview or a meeting with a client and the person doing the interviewing or the client turns out to be a watch enthusiast as well, which usually works out in your favor.

And it says that whether it’s true or not.

two of my cousins have rolex’s (one is a tudor) both given to them by relatives. When i see guys under 30 with them i pretty much just assume they bought bling and dont know anything about it.

that happens all the time with me.
im 20 years old and own a rolex. i know how that looks…
but i bought it myself and seeing that i service them, i got it cheap and repaired it myself.

i was all set to purchase a used tag, however…

after reading that story about Michael Kobold and the Kobold watch company…I really want one. They are reasonably priced too.

Kobold’s a cool guy. We pitched some branding ideas to him at the design firm I worked at. He laughed at me when I asked for a custom watch :meh:

Bracelet is completely undersized for the case and there is a bit too much excess writing on the dial. The new bracelet clasp is nice, larger diameter, and ceramic bezel. I would prefer an old SD with the new style bezel and clasp.

Ive been debating on a watch purchase for my bday… Bing looks like youre an Omega guy im sure you’ll like:

Reeds on Maple is an Omega AD. Went to take a look a few weeks ago to see what they had and check out the watch in person. Thank god they didnt have this 2201.50 LOL.
Still thinking about it. Havent seen the 2009 catalog yet.
