yah i regret buying china watches and not waiting for the swiss autos… fortunately i only made 1 or 2 mistake buys.
hey i love my nixons…guess i am just not baller enough
I have a clock on my cell phone… Fuck ugly watches. I like sunglasses
there is a mens accessories thread in the network section for those
Had a friend ask me what I would offer for this watch (he might be taking it as payment for some work), used with scratches but box and papers:
Not a huge fan of Tags, but I said $1,200 at first and retracted my bid and offered $1k.
Is that a price I can’t get hurt at?
Edit: just noticed that pic is brown, one I am offering on is black
The Carrera is pretty great watch. Pretty sure it’s basically top of the line as far as Tag goes, and a steal at $1k.
$1,000 you’re probably safe, depending on the condition. Make sure it’s real though. Most people whom are trying to pass off a decently valuable watch as form of a payment, probably didn’t have the money in the first place to drop on a watch.
For $1,000, I’d buy it.
Use watchuseek or timezone and see what they are going for used. Off the top of my head, a grand is not bad, depending on its overall condition.
Yup
Follow this thread for tips on spotting a fake:
valid concern on the fake…I would hope that a friend wouldn’t try to sell him a fake though!
It is more or less that my friend won’t take money from the guy so he is throwing him a watch as payment. Based on the box and paper work I am less worried about a fake, but good point.
The seller may not even know himself if it’s a fraud. I was at a jewelery shop many years ago and this woman wanted a battery replaced on her watch. The jeweler casually exposed it as a replica, even commented on it’s believeability. A huge arguement ensued including the lady’s man coming in and threatening the store owner and the police had to be called. Makes you wonder how many people are walking around with replicas and don’t even know it.
I was looking for an omega last week and there were at least 3 or 4 obvious fakes I saw and reported, some with MANY bids. During my search I found it pretty surprising how good replicas can be. You have to really learn the watch you are looking at if not buying from a reputable person/place. Good luck. The box and paperwork, for me, is a great sign, but positive proof.
Oh shit my seamaster comes today!!!
Actually here is the real vs. Fake I was looking for : http://forums.watchuseek.com/f25/how-identify-fake-caliber-16-movement-370145.html
With all the fake watches violating ebay policy, I thought this information might help someone out in the future.
The Chinese have become very proficient copying the Valjoux 7750, so much that the movements are nearly impossible to distinguish by simply looking at a picture. They have copied both old and new Calibre 16 rotors, eliminated the use of “blue” screws and now have microadjustment levers that look just like the real thing.
After researching many Carreras, the most reliable way to distinguish authentic from fake (at least for now) is to inspect the geneve striping decoration of the rotor. I’ve found a common trend of the fakes…even # of stripes without a centrally placed stripe down the middle of the rotor. All authentic Calibre 16 rotors that I’ve seen have an odd number of stripes with a centrally located stripe right through the “Tag Heuer” signature and rotor screw. If you don’t see a centrally located stripe down the middle of the rotor, then it is most likely a FAKE.
unfotunately no. I chose a watch that i liked the look of, could afford to “lose”, and was functional for scuba diving. I wanted a watch with a rubber band and the only rubber band i have in my current arsenal is my B&R which i do not want to subject to salt water or damage from coral.
Pay $35 and have it appraised. WELL WORTH the piece of mind.
i need to find a 19mm to 16mm deployment strap of a 19mm to 18mm deployment strap… want it to be waterproof and high quality… cannot find it anywhere…
help?
that photo is shit, leads me to beleive it is a fake Breguet
Thinking of picking up a 16618 very soon.
