Watch Crew: What to buy?

There are a few Tags and vintage Heuers that have caught my eye. It’s a really nice brand with solid history and relatively good values. This was a slow year for me with watches in that I only picked up two new ones.

this idea has legs… though in it’s current form i’m meh about it.

cliffs: Montblanc makes an E-strap… basically a smart watch in the form of a strap for a real mechanical watch

Hmmm… I was thinking of doing this to the GTS… The Cayenne part would be black. Plastidip removes easily if I don’t like it.

First new one of 2015.

Very, very nice.

Here you go Bing.

Nice pieces…I plan to do some shopping in the Bahamas next month

rather than me googling it, is it a proprietary movement in the fifty fathoms?

i have always read that it’s a rad piece but i dont know the history of it

In-house movement with 5 day power reserve.

EDIT: Full info here: http://www.blancpain.com/en/watch/5000-1110-naka

Read every page of this thread. Really enjoyed it and learned a ton about watches, movements, etc. It was like time traveling going through all the pages over the course of a few days.

I’ve always enjoyed watches, but never took the time to research and educate myself and had no idea what quartz meant, etc. I have a bunch of Nixon quartz watches that look great and serve their purpose well enough, but more recently, I started following websites like Worn and Wound, Crown and Buckle, Analog Shift, TimeBum, on Twitter, and thanks to this thread signed up on watchuseek.com. Between the foregoing sites and this thread, I have a new obssession.

On the hunt for a vintage mechanical piece right now to get my feet wet, probably a hand-wound military watch or military inspired field watch, somewhere in the vein of a Benrus #3061 like this “Bullitt”:
http://i973.photobucket.com/albums/ae218/Montag84/Benrus%203061%20Bullitt_zpsdvfgyrun.jpg

and a more dressier automatic, Hamilton Thin-o-Matics have caught my eye

http://i973.photobucket.com/albums/ae218/Montag84/Hamilton%20Thin-o-Matic_zps7yppxwkr.jpg

or a Benrus Three-Star

http://i973.photobucket.com/albums/ae218/Montag84/Benrus%20Three%20Star_zps7iivkrii.jpg

Then my current wish list includes the following:

Oris Artix GT Chronograph (Model No.: 674-7661-4434LS)

http://i973.photobucket.com/albums/ae218/Montag84/Oris%20Artix%20GT_zpsmjcpcqrv.jpg

or perhaps an older Oris TT3 Titanium

http://i973.photobucket.com/albums/ae218/Montag84/Oris%20TT3%20Titanium_zpshvogb0os.jpg

Steinhart Marine Chronograph

Casio Edifice (Model No.: ERA300B-1AV (I know, I know, not mechanical, but I dig the digital/analog look and the split-lap timer, etc.), just waiting for this to become available again on Amazon and will be picking it up.

And this is on my if-i-win-the-megamillions-list:

Heuer Carrera 2447 something in the first execution style like the following 2447D

http://i973.photobucket.com/albums/ae218/Montag84/Heuer%20Carrera%202447D%201st%20Execution_zps60mvvkjm.jpg

And came across this article today…

Must be nice. I think we’d all like to stumble across a grail watch for a bargain basement price…

Looking forward to future posts.

I picked up an old Benrus and Omega Seamaster from peeps on here.

Yeah, I figured I’ve been stalking long enough and if I put out some of my interests, someone local may have what I am looking for. I missed out on an Omega Seamaster (60’s era) on Ebay the other week, had some awesome patina on the dial and went for a bargain really. Kicking myself. Just lost out on a Helbros Hand-wind Invicible (not a prestige watch by any means, but I like the looks and the name, haha) by like $0.50 last night! Feel asleep liek 20 min before the auction ended.

Great article…

i saw that Tag in a high-end fashion / watch boutique in Malibu 3 weeks ago. this place: http://www.maxfieldla.com/

they wanted over $6k for it… they also had a Wakman triple date that they wanted over $9k for: http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-TRIPLE-DAY-DATE-WAKMANN-CHRONOGRAPH-VALJOUX-730-MOVEMENT-/171657070919?pt=Wristwatches&hash=item27f78f0947

yeah htey were way out to lunch on shit.

what i found most interesting though was that they had maybe 12 John Isaac Rolex’s in the showcase… including a BLNR that was PVD coated for $25k!!! these guys must prey on celebs who get their first cheque and have no friggin clue what things are actually worth.

John Isaac rolex’s are basically lightly modded new or vintage time pieces for 3x retail price from what i could gather.

oh, and buy my Omega Cal 265 if you want a vintage military spec watch

ok so I know its blasphemous but this kind of makes me want a “smart” watch

this is an LG - G watch R

I wonder if I have to use an android device to use the watch features?
typically android makes iOS compatible software but not vice versa…

Jesus, I came here to ask opinions on a watch I’ve been eyeing up and now I feel like it’s peanuts…lol my $500 watch doesn’t even compete with the ones being posted here. This is what I’m looking at:

http://slimages.macys.com/is/image/MCY/products/1/optimized/1670121_fpx.tif?wid=330&hei=404&fit=fit,1&$filterlrg$

I’ve wanted a Citizen watch for a while now, something I could wear daily, it’s got some weight to it and doesn’t require a battery. Is Citizen still a decent watch? Anything I should know about them before pulling the trigger?

if you have been wanting one for a while and it fits all your criteria then whats it matter if someone else doesn’t really dig it?

I am no expert but I think that citizen fits into the low end but is still decent quality for what you pay.
Think of them as being on par with Hamilton & Seiko.

That being said ill prob end up pulling the trigger on one or two modded 7s26 Seikos

but what I really want…ughh.

Hamilton is a much better watch than most Seiko/Citizen watches. Fact of the matter is that Citizen is made in China.

Like Walker said, if you like it then get it, but for $500 you can do MUCH better.

Well, I do like it and it fits my criteria, but I don’t know watches. It might look good, but it might be trash, that’s why I’m asking. I also know that $500 doesn’t get you much when talking watches, but I’d still like to pick up a respectable watch at the same time.

Citizen is good bang for the buck. @XwalkerX I do have an extra sub when you’re ready…
