Watch Crew: What to buy?

god damn you @EvoMR i want one so bad

perhaps ill be ready to finally pull the trigger when i sell my vehicles

ill give you a hamilton, u-boat and a nixon as a down payment lol

forget that Citizen and buy this: http://www.nyspeed.com/showthread.php?280772-Testing-Waters-Hamilton-Jazzmaster-Automatic-Chronograph&highlight=jazzmaster

@XwalkerX, i dont buy into the whole ‘patina’, to me that means worn out and requires service. Now, since we have @95d16turbo i guess the costs and risk associated with servicing are reduced… but you aren’t around here anymore anyways.

maybe look in Canada for a rolex? your dollar goes 25% further… if you can find a decent private sale without sales tax you’d probably do quite well… i’d proxy it for you if you want: http://www.kijiji.ca/b-jewelry-watch/ontario/rolex/k0c133l9004

for $4900 USD ($6k cdn) you can do quite well i believe.

also, matt, we should change your forum ID because i can never remember it when i want to tag you… do you even have a 95d16turbo still?

the key word in that quote is " most" I have both a Hamilton and a Citizen refer too this watch http://www.jomashop.com/hamilton-khaki-field-watch-h71566133.html and this http://www.amazon.com/Citizen-AT8020-54L-Angels-Stainless-Eco-Drive/dp/B008RNKIV8

The Hamilton was 2x the cost of the citizen. I purchased both with the intention of a daily wear watch, but the Hamilton sits in the watch box while I rarely take the citizen off. They both feel like watches of similar build quality. The only thing that that sets the Hamilton apart is the movement which I like because i appreciate watches. From a practicality standpoint the atomic time on the Citizen is better.

i thought we were talking about watches in this thread

I can appreciate that argument.

Ever since I bought my Hamilton I don’t even touch any of my others.

its just my daily go to watch.

ideally I would like to just have a sub to wear daily and that’s it.

http://www.nyspeed.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=34579&stc=1 I have a gen two tone blue sub. But here’s my rep Daytona with automatic movement for sale if anyone’s interested.

Here’s the gen sub:

Thinking about selling my Hamilton H64715885, if anyone is interested. Just don’t wear it often. $600

dude, before you said this was a rep i was all !!!

Wait… you have a REP Daytona, but a real two-tone sub? How does that even work?

but in a few years it’ll be obsolete and junk… I’m right behind you on a sub though.

i wear the rep to see if I really like it and if I do, I get a gen. I wouldn’t want to make a 12-13k buyers remorse.

I’m with Bobbygrv so here is my “cheap” watch. Glow in the dark AND titanium?!? Shut up and take my money.

this makes sense other than there is no such thing as buyer’s remorse on a Daytona

also, is that a rep of a real daytona because it’s repping a ceramic dial and i havent seen that arrangement of color / dial / bezel etc. before.

the WG Daytonas that look similar would be more than double $13k

*EDIT:

that arrangement doesnt exist unless you go custom, which beck and sam would not approve of. We’d still be cool though you and I

@bing, I’ll PM you about a forum ID change. and no, I haven’t had a d16 turbo in years hahaha. @BOBBYGRV, I’m pretty sure I can get you a better price on that Citizen… (I’m a Citizen dealer) PM me a model number and I’ll look it up for you.

@BOBBYGRV

Ive had a basic citizen eco-drive for probably 7 years now. Its been through hell, dropped many times, rode my quad with it on, swimming, mud… you name it its been through it. I still wear it regularly, it still looks good, and the glass isn’t scratched up. No battery to worry about. I keep it on the window sill above my kitchen sink when I don’t wear it to keep it charged from the sun and kitchen lights. It’s no baller status but I would not hesitate to buy another one.

Looks like they’re stepping their game up on this watch to give it a new look. I dig the Silver/black, not so much the gold/bronze.

aside from it being purely a status symbol why buy a Rolex Submariner vs an Omega Planet Ocean?

i like that the planet ocean is available in a 46mm case vs the sub’s 40mm

thoughts?

edit. just stumbled upon this review of the PO and the SD

http://forums.watchuseek.com/f102/omega-planet-ocean-vs-rolex-sea-dweller-comparative-review-66811.html

You can reduce it down to ‘why buy a PO over a Tissot Sea star?’ if you try hard enough.

Why buy a Porsche over a vette? etc, etc.

At the end of the day, pretty much the biggest thing is a Rolex is going to hold it’s value far better. Heck, sometimes they go up in value (Unless you bedazzle it). Movement is also a point of contention. An in-house Rolex movement isfar superior than the 2500 PO (Which are known to have serious problems). (The new 9500 movement is pretty sweet in the new ceramic PO and I’ve almost pulled the trigger on one about 15 times in the past three months).

I have no problem trying to justify $10,000 on a Rolex. I’d have a real hard time spending $10,000 on an Omega. (It’s a mental thing, but most people would agree.)

If you’re talking about a 16610 Submarier ($4500-$5000) vs a 2500 PO ($2500-$3000). SUB all day, for $2000 more. If you’re talking a 116610 Random Serial Ceramic sub for $7500 or a Ceramic PO 9500 for $4000 - the decision sways towards the PO a bit more. Personally, I haven’t pulled the trigger on a 9500 PO (42mm) because I don’t think I’d pass over my new GMT on my dresser to wear it.

PS - 45.5mm PO’s are big. I know you’re a Nixon 5130 kind of guy, but I’d personally go with a 42mm.

thanks beck.

Ill keep my options open but now kind of have a better grasp at the differences

and also the Hamilton I wear daily is a 46mm and I feel like is a perfect size for me
