Congrats. I bought those posters off you correct? You are probably cut up if you lost 60 lbs.
I did the 1 year with no fast food and switched to diet / pepsi Max. I don’t know that I can kick the caffinee. How long did it take to kick the crave?
People say I will lose weight if I lose the soda all together, but I can’t see how a 0 calorie, no sugar drink could be hurting my weight loss.
Yeah I have had to take a bunch of links out of watches. Shoes are another thing you wouldn’t think of.
Neck went from 22 to 17. I have been pretty lucky with loose skin. My stomach and upper legs could use some work, maybe I will use those HSA pre-tax dollars.
I have to get my wedding ring taken in, none of my dress shirts fit, went from a size 48 jacket at my wedding to a size 40. You’re right about shoes Ron, I just put on a set of Doc’s I haven’t worn, and had a ton of extra laces…
Congrats man, must feel great.
I am now into a 46/48 jacket (formally 60/62), but there is not much more left to lose. Lots of benching and pushups.
I was looking for my school rings the other day. Found my HS ring and it was a little loose, but haven’t found the college ring which I am sure would be huge.
We added the bowflex 1090’s to our set of 552’s. I like the handle of the 552’s much better. The 1090’s have a thicker handle which takes some getting used to.
Also added a 8 lb burnmachine speedbag for higher rep (longer burn) stuff, to go along with the 12 lb and universal.
Lebert equalizers (for dips and such)
I’ve lost 25 lbs(was 230 now 205) in just over a month using the myfitnesspal app on the I-phone, a steady workout regimen, and a shit ton of self control. 1/2 hour of hard circut training, and 1/2 hour on the weight bench all while calorie counting every day. I eat a lot of dry turkey subs from subway, fish, veggies, no late night eating binges and a lot of water. Oh, and cut down the beer  The big thing was fast food, pop, and energy drinks. Honestly the diet has given me more energy than a Rockstar would, although I still do love to have a 5 hour energy every so often.
I feel great and I look even better haha, but I still have about 15 lbs of fat to lose but I hope to stay around 200 by adding some good muscle tone.
I started myfitnesspal about two weeks after I started my diet and it has been a tremendous help while being very quick and easy to use. Here is my weight graph from the day I started.
Big (Normal) Ron was my inspiration. I’ll send you a kiss in the mail.
Great news. It comes easy when you stick with it, and cut the shit out. I have a blue no carb monster now and again. I’m big on the roast chicken breast and steak subs at Subway. Try cutting it into thirds, (if you’re bold, ask each third to be wrapped separately) eat a third every ~2 hours, really helps promote continued metabolism. Extra Veggies are free, load up, spinach instead of lettuce, tons of tomatoes, cucumbers, and so on. I’m dragging every week, I’ve been beating myself every day with extended cardio trying to get my endurance up. I’m hoping to push up my full 140.6 iron goal if I can find a non branded event next fall once dates become available. I still lift heavy 2-3x a week and find that helps keep the weight on it’s way down more-so than just running, spinning and now my poor attempt at swimming. Muscle dictates metabolism after all. Not saying improved cardio vascular health isn’t good, but as far as breaking down fat, for me, more mass and moving iron sheds lbs easily for me.
Congrats man. I used the app “Lose It!” when I was first getting started. It was really good to get an understanding of what all the foods I was eating really added up to. From there I set a routine and really didn’t need it anymore, but it is great to see you tracking results.
I have an excel sheet I update daily.
25 lbs is a lot of weight to lose in a short period of time. I had a couple 20 lb months but I was really pushing it. 10 - 15 was more common.
I continue to tell people to make lifestyle changes, don’t go on a diet. Diets are good for short term weight loss but it will all come back after you end your diet. Not sure if you are serious but I am happy that my success can motivate others, just like other people’s success motivated me.
Thanks guys. Once you posted that article talking about shrinking fat cells and not losing them, I figured it was time to do something before things got crazy.
I agree with lifestyle changes. I could get away with eating a typical 4-5 cheeseburger meal per week, but I would cry afterwords because of all the hard work lost. They key will be to limit my portions. One burger fully dressed, with a side of steamed spinach is no problem. I can already tell that my stomach itself shrank since I feel full after a 6" subway.
Thanks again for the tips Ron and Spam.
The best part is, now my wife is jealous and trying to catch up. She is already looking like she did before the kids so win win for me!
Just in case anyone cares, your stomach doesn’t actually shrink.
When you eat carbs, the carbs get broken down into glucose or fructose before it enters your blood. Once there fructose goes straight to the liver as its the only organ that can process fructose (that’s why it’s so bad.) Glucose goes to the muscles and brain first, fills the liver, and then if the liver is full and you still have excess sugar in your blood the sugar gets converted to palmitic acid and wrapped up with some other stuff into a VLDL molecule. One place the VLDL molecule goes is your brain.
Meanwhile, your stomach cells were producing a hormone called leptin, which goes to your brain and says “hey fatty that’s enough you feel full now.”
The problem is that palmitic acid works on the same receptor sites as leptin. So if you ate too much carbohydrate and jacked your blood sugar, now you’ve got all this PA in your brain that is stealing receptor sites from the leptin and you’re not picking up the “full” signal very well.
So when you eat less, carbs in particular, your blood sugar doesn’t spike so hard and your liver doesn’t get overwhelmed and you don’t produce all these VLDL’s. Thus the “full” signal starts coming in the way it’s supposed to and you feel full more appropriately. Feels like your stomach has gotten smaller though.
So if you want to lose weight without feeling hungry all the damn time cut back on carbs, especially the “high glycemic load” ones that get digested really fast and just dump sugar into your blood. Eat as much meat as you want (your hormones will thank you) and non-starchy veggies. Save things like sweet potatoes and squash for after workouts.
Weight loss isn’t about who has the most willpower to endure hunger. It’s about biochemistry. Granted sugar is pretty addictive so breaking the addiction requires willpower, but proper food choice is most of the willpower required. Do that and your body will take care of portion control on its own.
Oh, and go for a long easy walk. Don’t spend a ton of time grinding away on a treadmill. That just jacks your cortisol and makes you store more fat. But cortisol is a hormone for another lecture.
Nice writeup Fry. I had to read it a few times to firmly grasp it. Ron, I am very serious that you inspired me. Look back on your banking off weight loss or whatever thread.
I remember going to burger king, getting a steakhouse meal king sized with an extra whopper on the side then a milkshake. That meal would almost be two days worth of calories. Those days have to be long gone and never come back.
Yeah I remember the days of the side sandwich.
My Wendy’s order would be: Number 2 combo with a large fry and a frosty rather than a drink and a side chicken sandwich. Or a Spicy chicken sandwich and a cheese burger side. Sometime I would switch the fries out for nuggets. Then take it all home and wash it down with a liter of cherry coke and sit on my couch and watch TV for the rest of the night.
Funny/scary to think how that was a staple in my rotation, now I haven’t been to a Wendy’s in over a year and a half.
