ALright so this is in my friends 1997 EL. Few days ago the whole car just started shaking when he is driving. The stick moves around a shit load in gear when he isn’t touching it. Can anybody give him some advice?
where the shaking coming from ? like just the tranny or steering and the tranny is moving?
not really sure, the car just shakes when you are going fast like 70+. I think it’s coming from the tranny. but it never used to do that.
it could be a tie rod my car had a big shake from about 50-70 real bad then when you go around a bend the car stopped shaking then my tie rod broke and i hit a fire hydrent
could it be a wheel vibration, did he do anything with his wheels, did it snow there? maybe theres some snow or ice in the front wheels that shit shakes the hell out of a car
he didnt do anything with his wheels but it did just snow here. also his ebrake keeps freezing, could that have anthing to do with it? maybe its still on or something?
Maybe the transmission mount or an engine mount is torn.
jack the car up check wheels and shake to see if there is any play. could be many different things causing this to happen. also, check your engine mounts to see if they are torn.
I would think it is most likely snow. Most problems don’t just suddenly start, they start small and slowly make more and more vibration. But its possible that you didn’t notice it untill now. So first thing I would do is clean off the snow or mud if there is any. Jack it up check the front end, grab the wheel horizontally and shake, grab the wheel vertically and shake, grab a large bar or something and pry up on the bottom of the tire and push in a the top.
If the vibration seems to be coming from one corner of the car more than the others check for a belt shift in the tire.
To check the mounts have someone watch the engine or look under the car while you load up the engine a little in drive and or reverse and see if the engine and tranny move a lot. If they are moving a lot or banging replace mounts.
