okay, this is barely a techy question. my car is a base model so it didn’t come pre-wired for power windows/doorlocks. so i made my own harness and swapped out the manual cranks for power guts, just wanna know if anyone can tell me what fuse (amp) i should be using?
the kick panel fuse cover on my car doesn’t show a fuse for power windows. i used a 10A last nite and it blew after maybe using the windows about 5 times.
oh if anyone needs this conversion done, i can do it for $100 assuming you have all the parts
I actually had a problem with the passenger side window last night and I was looking for that fuse. Unfortunately the wiring diagram does not list which fuse is used for the power windows. Based on the fact it’s a 20 amp fuse my guess is that it’s the same as the Windshield Wiper and Washer fuse in the fuse block. The problem turned out to be that I accidently hit the window lock switch and neither the driver side or passenger side window switch would operate the passenger side window. Once I found the source of the problem I was able to operate the passenger side window but I still had no idea what the fuse was… :? Is that the correct fuse for the power windows?
I did this swap about 1.5 years ago (or so? don’t even remember)
Takes about 2 hours to do it all including wiring etc etc.
I used a 20A fuse that also powers my cell charger, ipod, cig lighter, and some interior lights (ran it from the batt so I can use these things with the car off). It’s never blown and I’m sure i’ve never drawn close to that. I’m guessing at most they are 5amp motors … so a 15amp fuse should be fine as well.
