What anti-spy/virus is worth buying?

So just like the title says, which one is actually worth paying for? This is for a home computer and laptop. I use the intrawebs a lot, otherwise i use autocad and solidworks. I don’t know if that matters, just trying to cover the bases. I am leaning towards malwarebytes because the free version did so well, but I’d like to hear some opinions. Thanks for the responses in advance

Why pay for it?

adaware + spybot for spyware
AVG for virus

i have all of the above, none could remove the nuwar b crap. I want something that will just take care of it without me having to manually run it constantly

malwarebytes is amazing

Eset NOD32 hands down

ehh i tried that and got rid of it because i was sick of always needing to get new codes everyday. then when i installed AVG again it found a few viruses that nod32 didnt

AVG and Avast were ok for a little while(used at seperate times), but Trend Micro Internet security found a lot of shit that they both missed. If you search around you can get Trend Micro for the cost of shipping after mail in rebates.

Vista is pretty secure for me so far. Had it for almost 2 years. Never had a virus/malware/spyware issue. Just dont have shitty downloading habits and you wont need to pay for virus protection.

get trend micro FREE for 3 years

Common Sense FTW

kaspersky

good deal

i’ve been using onecare for 2 years now, and will pay for a third. Great program.

But kaspersky just gave me a few licenses to their internet security, and that seems to be pretty good too.

and Jabbu, that is the worst advice you could ever give somebody. And to think those programs are really good, did you ever wonder why even those programs have paid subscriptions to features/updates?

My friends, family and I have used that combo for years, they know dick about computers, so i’m sure its been working just fine cause they haven’t called me for help. I’ve used them for a long time with 0 problems, but i don’t visit random sites…

Best advice is don’t dick around on unknown sites.

x2 for adaware + spybot

I run AVG free only on my PC’s and they all never had a virus or spyware of any kind in years. I dont even normally do scans anymore, but AVG didnt see anything when i scanned last week…

Its quite easy to avoid even getting spyware, just dont go to shady sites with shitty browsers.

exactly what I said. Thats why I dont have a spyware/antivirus. Only thing that runs is windows defender. Works fine. Just dont be dumb when browsing.

How do you know your not infected if the software your using doesnt pick up 100% of the virus’/spyware out there?

thats like saying “my treatments working doc, i dont have disease A” but your actually only testing yourself for disease B…

Obviously i dont, it would be quite difficult to be SURE you have no sort of spyware or viruses… You could run every program out there and still be infected.

I never saw a hint of my computer having problems, and i dont type any personal information on the windows computers anyways.

From what I saw, windows defender actually works alright. They kinda designed the OS, so its quite logical for them to protect it for you…

But still, spend 5+ mins on any of those shady crack sites and its going to implode on the next reboot.

There is no good solution for stupid users. You can have mulpt hardware and software firewalls all locked down, the best spyware and virus protection available, and still get pop ups for saving on viagra soft chews when you type www.google.com into IE.

Although i am running 64 bit XP, i guess the spyware might be too poor to run in a 64 bit environment? haha.
