What can I do with my new Mazda?

Ok, I hope this is in the right place as this is my first non-classified related post/thread on this whole site hahaha. If its in the wrong spot lemme know and I’ll ask to get it moved wherever it should go.

Anyways, I just got a new car to replace my dead 01 Prizm. It’s a 1996 Mazda Protege LX. Its got the 1.5 liter, 92 HP engine and a pretty smooth manual transmission. I like it a lot but the lack of power and acceleration is killin me, even compared to the Prism’s 1.8 liter engine this thing feels a bit sluggish. What are some less expensive things I can do to spped her up a bit?

Moved to GA and approved…

carry on.

Remove the head and weld coins to the piston to bump CR

I would just drive it and save your money for something more worthwhile

DD it and mod something else.

what does that entail? I’m new to just about everything going past the surface of the engine, but i’m willing to learn

@ livin4hockey: why? Does this car really lack potential that badly? I figured it might be a decent platform for some basic modifications.

Forced induction is about the only chance your car has at getting out of its own way. This is expensive and risky, so it is not something you should consider at all.

Your best bet is to just keep it running well by staying on top of general maintenance.

The coin/piston thing was a joke.

Agreed.

lol good lord, I get messed with everytime I post here, my first post got me sent to a Dodge Viper enthusiast site to ask about buying a beater ><

anyways so its only use really is as a DD?

you got it. unless you’ve got 10’s of thousands of dollars kicking around.

damn, well is there a cheap platform out there I can get in the spring to play around with a bit? I’d like something to mess around with.

 I remember that! Don’t worry, it’s just sort of a hazing. As for your car, yeah it really has no modding potential. Keep it running and save your money for a civic as a second car to mod. I know they seem similar, but Civic parts are everywhere and there is a huge aftermarket for them so cheap mods can be found used. Not so much with your car.

I think you’re a great candidate for a 92-95 civic. They’re cheap to begin with and there are lots of guys around with lots of knowledge and lots of cheap parts they’ll sell you.

hahaha that was epic

on topic: keep it stock!

This was a gag post right???

Is it stupid fucking noon day? I am going back to work I like those fuck wads better

:word:

buy a 92-95 civic with a healthy engine and turbo it with DSM parts. Cheap, easy and gives the car some power. PM me with any honda questions

Good luck!

Hmmm I could get into that, maybe a civic hatch, they look like fun projects…i’ll go poke around a bit

heh my buddy who is heavy into this type of stuff(turbo’d prelude owner) wanted me to put one of those Rx-7 rotary motors in it hahaha

How so? Keep in mind, very new to all this, hell the only reason I know what a turbo is is because i’m a VW fan

why dont u just swap a bseries motor into your mazda and make it :snky: !

or you can always spray it with a 200shot
