What does a $150,000 house look like in your neighborhood?

its is pretty reasonable here.

when the wife & i finished school we were going to go back to NJ, but houses there are PRICY.

so we ended up staying.
go a decent place for a lot less then 150
4bedrm, 2full, 2half bath, 1 car garage, corner lot a little over 2300sqft. (needed a decent amount of interior cosmetic work but thats no biggie)
decent for our first home, & should do decent on the resell.

but dirty goerge has been seriously looking around here for 1-2yrs & hasn’t found what he wants.

i don’t think the market is as good now as it was 2-3yrs ago.

You could probably buy my entire neighborhood for $150k

My house was in that range, and I’m in CT keith, you can get all kinds of deals, it just depends on what town you’re in like anywhere else.

damn. fuck. shit. so the question is rent and be right in town close to everything, including my business… or buy somethign in Salisbury and have to commute 30 min every day. I guess its not that long of a drive. :hs;

I’d commute the 30 minutes.

iw oudln’t… biggest advantage to living in pittsburgh is lack of commute!

i seen better houses on channel 14 but they are usually in manchester or lincoln-lemington

I guess I’m just used to a 40 - 50 min commute now. Bought a house, they moved our workplace  , not much choice. Guess it comes down to if you can afford it, if you like the area by work, and if you aren’t established somewhere.

but is that advantage worth pissing away ~$15K in potential equity every year by renting instead of owning?

Option A: Own what I can afford in OC, which aint much

Option B: Continue to rent a half decent place in OC

Option C: Own what I can afford in Salisbury, but have to drive 30 min to work.

I’m thinking of just trying to buy in Salisbury. I’ll really only have to commute for about 5 months out of the year. Then maybe the business will become profitable and I can cash out the equity in the house in Salisbury, and maybe even make some money on the sale, and get a place in OC.

Hey, it’s a starting point for negotiation…

I’m going from a 10 mile commute (25 minutes) to a 40 mile commute (40 minutes) as soon as I sell this place. I’ll be in your neighborhood - I have an accepted offer on a house on Market Street in Beaver…

That’s about the same as what I could find up here, 160,000 run down, but it’s not near the beach.

You must be thinking of Rochester. Rostraver is in Westmoreland county.

Yeah, you’re right. Doh!

When I was house-hunting in Connecticut, I lived in Hamden (north of New Haven) and worked in Milford (along I95). The only houses that I could afford at that time were in the “shooting gallery” just outside of New Haven. I bailed and bought a decent house in Pleasant Hills with no shooting in the neighborhood. I left CT because the things about the place that made it better than Pittsburgh didn’t compensate for the things that I didn’t like (traffic, cost of living, etc.) I still go back twice a year to visit the in-laws in Berlin.

Our house was less than $150,000… It has 1.2 acres, 3 bedroom, 2 full baths, 2 half baths, large eat in kitchen, formal dinning room, gas fireplace in the living room, generous space between neighbors… and my taxes are only $950 a year. If you ask Bowtie Daddy to take a picture, I’m sure he will.

$950! Is that county and school combined?

Darkstar, you live by yourself correct? If so how much house do you really need? Is it just all about the size for you? (not being a dick) I mean I’m not saying buy that little shit house you posted up but just buy something small and live there till you can afford something “bigger”

the only houses on my street that are under 150K are these row houses which are rentals for the most part i thought…it sux living in SQ HILL tax wise, otherwise it’s great…I guess it’s an investment (that’s what I keep telling myself)

What do you mean? I live in squirrel hill for free! I think you are looking in all the wrong places!
