What happens when a muffler shops does motor work...

Drove my 240 for three days and it stalled in the middle of the road. I pulled the valve cover off to find the timing chain that was “fixed” days before I bought the car

I guess they don’t believe in torque wrenches. As a result it looks like a rebuilt head is the least I can get away with. About $1200 worth of work that lasted 3 days because some one didn’t care, makes me wonder what people are thinking.

Does the previous owner have receipts?

Thats not good.

O_O Weow. Engine swap time!

B-Wurm

guyy my motor was finished like that 2 … dont even bother fixin that shit just swap somethin in

I actually got the invoice from him and I kind of know the guy that did the work. He’ll be seeing the pictures as soon as I can make it down there when they’re open. I think I will swap it just a matter of the cost. I have a few questions before I do it though too. I won’t ask here because I know with a bit searching I’ll be able to figure it out with out wasting any ones time answering the same questions over and over again. Any one from Calgary that woul be willing to give me a ride in SR20 S13? It would be nice to know what I’m getting in to

They probably didn’t tighten the bolt up enough or they stripped it out or whatever, the possibilites are endless. That sucks though d00d. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

ouch. bet that sounded good when it happend!! :o

If your lucky enough… Check to see if the tensioner and spring has popped out of the tensioner block thingy (LOL, whatever you call that thing)… If so, stop reading…

Can you see any visible signs of damage to the tensioner, guides and chain? If not, simply get the bolt from a wrecker (with washer) line up TDC on #1 on compression stroke, line up the cam, bolt everything together, and see if it starts. (not simply as easy as that) Do a compression test and see if things come back. You may luck out and it’ll be fine. Stranger things have happened. Also, you may want to try and find the washer and bolt from the oil pan.

Good luck to you!

I might just try that. I have a feeling a valve or 2 is bent but at this point I don’t have much to lose. I talked to the guy at the shop today and it looks like he’s a pretty good guy and will try and help me out. I have a couple of options.
#1 He’ll get me some valves and I can throw it back together.
#2 He has a compleate S14 DOHC I can have for free. I don’t know the shape of it though. Even if I sell it I don’t think I could get that much for it to make it worth while. And to swap it in doesn’t sound that easy. So for about the same work I could do the SR
#3 SR swap which I’m leaning towards and if I do he’ll do a 3 inch exhaust for free.

He said the previous owner had a couple appointments to bring it back and get it checked but never did. I don’t know but he does seem like a good guy about it. It could be a lot worse

Hopefully he pulls the head off to do the valve job instead of the “fill the cylinder with air” method. That way you can see if the valves did any damage to the pistons or cylinder walls.

Surprisingly it didn’t make much of a sound when it went

I’m a little worried about what I’m going to find when I pull the head off. I’m just finding out now that the timing set has been replaced about 4 times in the last couple of months! I’m expecting the worse. So rather than mess around with this one I think I’m going to go for the SR swap and be done with it.

Thanks for the help guys
