The switch AWAY from SON240SX.CA is NOT A SUDDEN one.
The switch was planned, by all of the admin, with the exception of Andrew apparently, early in 2007 and even as far back as 2006.
The reason is becuase NO ONE ON SON240SX owns the DOT CA domain.
The .ca domain is owned by some clown who started the club like 8 years ago or something and has disappeared.
The switch was endorsed by all admin, as far as i know, because what has been going on for the last 4-6 years has essentially been creating potential value for the ghost owner. The purpose of the switch was because we, the current admin, want to have control over the destiny of SON240sx. that destiny does not include selling it… holy shit like i would EVER support that… jesus christ i hate anyone who thinks this place is getting sold without the threat of death at my hand

I checked the IPs on his account and its not someone else making a fake account. These are real.
So he has been trying to buy the site for 5 months. This is the first I’ve heard anything about it. Who is the one doing secret things? Pretty sure thats not me.
Did anyone even hack the site or was this just a lame excuse to switch servers, gain control, and sell the club?!?

First off, this is not an Anti-Andrew thing, and it is not a Pro or Anti-Gautam thing.
It is simply a matter of making sure the site is permenantly in total control of the people who run it.
Yes Andrew (Iquabob) is the president and yeah he has an admin contact status on the domain.
I was able to contact THIS YEAR the guy who actually owns the domain, he has no interest in giving it up becuase HE knows what it is worth. He is active on other forums, non-car related, and it took me like 4 years to track him down… i am now the king of google-searching btw… yeah you know it.
The concept of switching to .net or .org was to subvert the actual domain owners authority over the site. It has nothing to do with Andrew, at least not from my perspective, however, Andrew’s uninvolvement in the site and controversies over the paypal account and other clubs funds didnt help the situation, but to be honest, i dont think that that is here nor there at this point.

This has turned into a Andrew vs. G thing and it was never EVER supposed to be that way… It also was not a secret from Andrew… We have been talking about switching the domain name for OVER A YEAR! for exactly the reason i laid out above.
The actual owner of the forum is still active on other forums, he knows about SON and how big it has gotten. He is essentially cyber-squatting on the domain and we are renting…
the switch was inevitable, and even andrew knows it. The only defense we have is to switch… it never made sense to switch at the last second before this guy tried to monetise the domain.
The hacker situation made it a reaosnable time to switch over, but for some reason it became a huge political battle between Andrew and G.
Pav, i have explained this already, why the switch of the domain was a PLANNED switch. Andrew knew about it, so did Hutchy, in fact, Hutchy was for it. Andrew of course was not as excited about it obviously, but the fact remains that while we are www.son240sx.ca we are just renting until the real owner decides to sell the domain.
The ACTUAL issue here is sa mishandling of the situation that has forced somewhat of a divide.
In all honesty, i have seen this exact same thing play out. All of my buddies in the US from NYspeed have been though this before and it is super ugly for a bit.
The fact remains that the best interest of the community is to NOT be tied to the .ca domain because it has additional instability becuase of the owner’s lack of involvement.
G could never have sold the site anyways, and he cant sell the new one either… it doesnt matter who has control… there will always be a significant faction of admin who fight to keep the site independent
The reason we wanted to switch to .org originally was to be able to change the DNS info since we wanted to switch webhosts. I was able to control the domain and change the DNS, so we didn’t need to switch the domain after all.
If we were apparently trying to switch for over a year, then why was the .org domain registered on May 26th 2007? That seems to correspond to the same time frame you’ve been discussing the sale of the site in.

This is a pretty laughable exchange for a site with a valuation of a few grand and only 631 active members. So neither Andrew or Gonad could sell the site wihout being the registered owner anyway…it’s a moot point, just drop it.

The new SON240sx.org appears to be under the control of the former mods. The Admin/Prez is sticking with the old .ca format. The “owner” just lost a shitload of value.
People can choose either, there is only 631 bodies to fight for LOL.
