What is up with our local car scene?

And why does it suck so bad?

I know its the end of the season, but damn, this year was pathetic. Why does our local scene suck? Cevo meets with 5 cars, UC meets with 20. I didn’t go to any NECC, but this is one of the most active boards in our area (hence why I’m still here).

Discuss.

bears dont hang with the bees

umm meets arnt the whole car season you fucking ricer, there is drifting every other thurs 3 different drift events, n-e-c-c autox every month not to mention the rx7 club autox and there is still 2 more car shows/drift showoffs/auto x’s put on by scc

i think the import scene here is better than you think, your jsut a ricer who thinks “street racing” is the import scene.

discus…ted hahhahaha sorry jeff sometimes the truth huts eh? haha

I think people got tired of seeing riced up cars… If I really needed that I’d just look at the Nopi site for a few minutes…

Personally I think seeing a stock car with hours of thought, planning and the owners personality in it motor and driveline is a better than a body kit and paint…

Maybe your right, but I don’t have weekends off so it’s true I’m not fully aware of events like that going on. I’m also talking about the disgust of one club/group of cars towards another. NECC vs Civics, NLR vs. the rest of us, etc.

When did it stop being the love of driving and automotives? I could easily turn around and use the word “drifter” against you as you call me a ricer. That’s no better in my opinion.

PS, not taking a stab at anyone who drifts, just Kent :finga:

Certainly not scientific but my opinion…

In any group, club, or in this case scene, people usually get together for friendship. I look at what goes on in the parking lot of UC or on the forums and I have to say that friendship doesn’t seem to be the prevailing attitude.

There seems to be a tendancy for people in our scene to jump all over someone else who they perceive to know less about cars? I notice on a few forums, here included, that it is pretty risky for a noob to ask a question for fear of people ridiculing them. At least the forums give some degree of anonymity but I can’t imagine what it must be like in ‘real life’ when one wants to learn something.

I don’t know for sure but from some experiene in other area of the car scene, I don’t get the sense this kind of thing goes on with other types of enthusiast circles (muscle cars, british cars, antiques, etc.) Those groups seem to be more helpful of one another even when competing in sanctioned events than the sport compact scene people are. Ours seems to be all about outdoing the other guy even while cars are sitting in the friggen parking lot.

One other reason that I know is a factor for some of us “more mature” enthusiasts is that we don’t like getting caught up in some of the negative attention the police pay to us when guys with less mature attitudes towards driving on public roads act like morons.

For me, I am not likely going to go on a club cruise with people that do double the speed limit or go to a meet where people are doing burnouts in the parking lot. I don’t like being lumped in with that stuff and getting the once over by the cops merely for being ‘with’ someone who deserved to get pulled over…end rant.

The only car scene I care about is me and my car. That’s my scene. Who gives a fuck about anyone else.

If there’s a good group of guys around like NECC, well that’s just icing on the cake then.

I joined necc to meet people and learn. I didn’t join because I wanted to be a part of any “scene”. Where I’m from there are very few people with imports and no events. I haven’t really met up with anyone from this club as of yet, but planning to.

I agree on MyGTR’s opinion on the attitude of clubs/groups/forums/scenes. As far as forums go, there is a lot of downgrading comments made to people making an effort to learn more about their cars. Hell, if i don’t know something about my engine or a procedure i should take, i’m going to ask. Constructive criticism is going to be expected depending on the question, but should never be negative feedback.

As for club rivalry, I don’t think imports should fight amongst themselves. I don’t understand why people should hate on nissans, hondas, mazdas or whatever. (I’m not partial to domestics is all, but I usually keep that to myself unless provoked). I would love to see a cruise or bbq with several clubs or make groups combined. I’d see that as an opportunity to meet people, learn more about different makes, their setups, techniques and technologies.

more to come later on, gotta get back to work. . .

Thats kind of what I’m getting at here. More togetherness for the love of the hobby, less bitching.

^^^same ^^^

we should ahve an unofficial club meet sometime. To ge to know people who think like that.

^^ Agreed. how about a wings night? We had talked about this many times, but never actually did it.

I joined cuz I wanted free shit… Where’s my free shit… j/k

i thought this was a dating site for nissan enthusiasts. at least thats what bora told me and the membership was for vip

think we could plan something from sept. 20th till oct. 5th?. . . i’m in town for 2 weeks then go back to work. . .

I second the wings night. Any other suggestions? I’m not too familiar with other import clubs in edmonton tho. . .i’m sure lots of you guys know other people tho
