It depends on how much you drive. I may spend $50k on a car and still consider gas mileage. Why? I drive 25,000 miles a year, at today’s cost that’s $5k in gas monies in my LGT (20MPG avg, $3.95/gallon 93 OCT). If I looked at something that was happy with regular, and could get an easily achievable 30MPG I’d save nearly $2k/yr. If I own the car for 5 years, that’s 20% of the price of the car in gas savings. Meaning all things being equal, my $50k 20MPG could be argued to cost me $60k after gas compared to its 30MPG counterpart. Not to mention that Ill assume the extra 10MPG penalty came with a bigger engine / car that ate tires and other consumables and probably has higher insurance rates.
Just because I can afford a $50k car, hardly makes me suddenly less fiscally responsible
That said, the intent of your post is right, and most people are worried because they spent 75% of their paycheck on the car and can’t cover the gas bills :mamoru:
An Ex-Cop car…
There is maybe 3-4 people in here who MIGHT actually get the car they posted. As far as I go. I only buy celica’s b/c i’m a moron so if they ever make that RWD turbo one then thats the next car I will buy. Untill then I will D.I.A.F or just drive the car I have now until I die.
I’m thinking of an '02 or '03 Range Rover for the DD, and possibly an older Boxter for a fun 2 seater. Then the FD can get tuned on race gas and 30psi.
Something 5spd and AWD for the winter… thinking 2002 WRX ish
1994 Corvette. Admiral Blue targa top with the six speed. getting it for a smoking deal.
oh really? for sure?
:fry:
willy i just need to talk to my grandma about cosigning and im set to go along with the sale of my camaro.
06/07 sub 30Kmi red TSX w/black leather, no navi, 5spd auto. this will happen in spring/summer 09, whenever i get my next year’s contract. love the edmunds reviews, love the price, consumer reports has good things… sharp, reliable ride with gas mileage identical to the GSR. i can swing the maintenance costs, insurance is low, numerous safety features, HIDs… can’t go wrong there. very excited
thorough research is greater than star
