What tires to get, down to three choices..

Car is a 2003 saturn ion. Car has 33k miles, and the OEM firestones are nearly worn out, and they are howling on the freeway. The car sat a long time in the garage before I bought it, and they might be slightly flatspotted also.

Size is 185/70/14…

I’m looking for a long wearing sporty touring tire. Doesn’t need to be an all season tire, as I’m moving west, but summer tires usually means low treadwear, and I want the treadwear.

First is the Kuhmo.

Solus KR21 [SIZE=3]185/70 R14 87T BSW

Second is the General.

Third is the Cooper.

I’ve read alot of good about that cooper tire on several forums.

Also they had a really interesting writeup on their website.

The kuhmo has a 660 wear rating, and they include a 85k treadwear warranty, and a 25k road hazard warranty for free.

The general really isn’t much of a contender, but I was reading online that people were getting 80k out of this tire.

I just don’t want too much roadnoise.

I’m a cheap cheap bastard man…

I can’t justify spending 75+ bucks for any 14 inch tire.

stay away from the ameri g4s…they suck horribly. rain/snow/ moons not aligned properly. Thats for normal driving not pushing the vehicle at all. The wear characteristics tend to suck also. Nothing but bad experiences with every car i’ve put them on / taken them off.

i was gonna say, knowing you im surprised you even asked this question.

go to big d tire and get 4 centrons mounted and ballanced for like 125 bucks lol

That tires-easy.com site is pretty weird.

It seems to be a brokerage house setup in asia, that simply has contacts with tire suppliers all over the country, then they just have the tires drop shipped, and they take a cut.

They have WAY more selection than tirerack or discount tire, and their prices are about the same as discount tire.

I suppose discount tire only sells name brand quality tires, because they don’t want to deal with the backlash of selling 9 dollar mohawk tires with a 260 wear rating.
