i remember rozzo saying he had ac on his sr20 swapped sentra
yea, it was in there…dont believe it worked however.
from whta he told me it did beceause he was sayin how he’d never sacrafice a/c cuz he drove the car every day (at that time)
ehhhh, whatever i guess.
i would say sr20 would be the way to go… but the KA can be made to make power also.
i know a guy that made alittle over 500 to the wheels, on a stock head. built bottom end of course… but still have alot of room for more power! Im pretty sure it was with a GT35-61E turbo. the website is www.phatka-t.com
phatka-t’s cars are impressive… but they are doing it with built bottom ends.
http://www.enjukuracing.com/enjukucar.htm
Check out enjuku racings s13… 544.2 rwhp on a stock bottom end. Check out their mod list. Its really nothing that crazy. If that doesnt make you a believer i dont know what will.
wow… that man knows whats up. I’d like to see the dyno sheet and fuel curve for that thing, b/c that power FC is where all the power is coming from.
I believe full race has that cars dyno sheet on it’s site or it is a car that is very close to that set up
it has a SAFC not a power FC
i dont understand what is so taboo about building a bottom end
if you want 500hp you need to buy turbos, injectors, fuel pumps, and a bunch of supporting mods for either an SR or a KA that more or less balance out
so what would you rather do, import an engine from japan, or buy some parts for your existing motor, which is more of a hastle? which costs more?
headgaskets and spun bearings??
oK, your experience seems to differ from most
a) Sr20det even with turbo on it, is lighter than ka24
b) i like the higher revving sr20
c) Parts availability/aftermarket for sr20det is light years beyond ka24’s
d) Amount on power you can make on a stock sr20det bottom end, the ka24 is lucky to hold 300 rwhp for very long.
a)true, actually a ford smallblock weighs less than a KA
b)not really relevant to the argument
c)ssoooo, what are you having trouble finding for a KA that you need, exhaust manifolds for amost any turbo combination are out there, the sky is the limit with clutches…its not as if there are KA specific fuel pumps intercoolers and FPRs
d)simply not true, properly tuned KAs with 300whp can last as long as any other motor
IMHO the biggest single advantage of an SR is more idiotproof engine management, SR motors come with SR ecus…which know what to do with a turbo, 90% of the blown up KATs out there are probably due to boosthappy drivers with nothing but an AFC
ESPICALLY with some of the rom tunes (NOT JWT) and daughterboard swaping that is comming along now a KAT can be made to run as good as a stock turbo car, without any AC, cruise, or emissions issues
do a search, how many different camshaft combos can you find for a Ka… now look for sr cams. Now look for equal length turbo manifolds. Howa bout intake manifolds… more than one company off them for the ka? Im curious.
this is my kinda forum KA bashing. hey ok check this out i think i stand for everyone at hybrid as having posibley the cleanest lowest milage s13 it was a 93 coupe with like 70k on it and it was strait from washington state. it was an automatic… and, when i bought it it had trouble from day one cyl 3 didnt like to fire every once in a wile.
now. one evening some asshole who shall remain namless pissed me off, after ding about 5-6 donuts off the rev limiter in 1st - 2nd gear. making my escape down 885 this noise like crushing gravel became apart, i got about 2 miles floored it and it just made this loud bang. it died.
jay himself the last time i talked to him said he had never seen anything like it.
ka24de’s have mad problems wile the sohc predisor on my current car put 210k miles on it before i blew it up in my driveway before putting in the RB by simpley removing the oil replacing it with “quick concreat mix” (thank dom mecca for that) and holding it at about 7k for a good 30 seconds.
i latter drug the motor by the back bumper of a truck to the local junk yard it hit into a few things off the side of the road, but the junk yar was down the street and that pice a shit diserved it.
ka’s belong in trucks
not turbo charged
not…in 240’s period.
if i wasnt such a nissan fan. i’d piss on nissan for having the thought of puttin that motor in the damn car. if they didnt want it trubo why the fuck didnt they jsut put the sr20de in it liek a god damn sentra.
then again i dont think my rb20 is suppost to be in there ither…
i have herd many things about ka’ts that suck…mostley that they have headgasket problems and harmonic imbalance issues. were your motor will basicley self destruct
i dunno about the sohc ka’s as much i think they half to be better than a dohc…my dohc took 70k to die and i beat on my sohc way harder way longer and it had 210k on it
before i go i’ll leave a picture of mike’s ka24 that i took a piss on
dumb reason to base your opinion on
when i bought it it had trouble from day one cyl 3 didnt like to fire every once in a wile.
after ding about 5-6 donuts off the rev limiter in 1st - 2nd gear
jay himself the last time i talked to him said he had never seen anything like it.
congratulations, thats why title transfers have ‘buyer beware’ in the fine print, but maybe instead of ‘the KA sucks’ lets try ‘i bought a bum car and was stupid with it’
sohc predisor on my current car put 210k miles
blew it up in my driveway (snip) by simpley removing the oil replacing it with “quick concreat mix”
yes, the KA sucks, because after 210k miles, the only way you could blow it up was by putting concrete mix in the oil pan, your logic and rhetoric has defeated the KA in all its forms
whatever
if you want an SR because its mad tizzite JDM hot, thats fine
if you want an SR because you dont know how to tune a KA for boost, thats fine
but it is not a pile, it is not a horrible motor
when you cut through all the BS here, the only valid point is that the KA does not have the bottom end to hold 500hp
its a bit vindictive to go around proclaiming ‘the KA blows nuts, because i bought one that ran poorly and was abused, then i beat the living piss out of it and it finally failed and everybody on the internet says its just a truck motor and…it sucks my left nut, SR all the way’
KA = TRUCK MOTOR, it SUXORS,
JDM JDM JDM
DRIFT DRIFT DRIFT
DERKA DERKA DERKA
not really a dumb reason… ka24’s don’t like donuts. Thats how jay spun a bearing in his also.
This may not seem important to you… but to someone who plans on drifting the car, Its a pretty big deal. Sliding through corners puts the same strain on the oil supply through g forces - almost the same as doing donuts would.
Do the SR guys keep the stock pan too, or do they go to a higher capacity aluminum one? I’d imagine something like the Moroso pan for my neon, with baffles and trapdoors and such would keep the KA alive in that case.
Brian, do you own a KA motor?
UMM… i dont own a sr cause its jdm hot…acualy i have a rb…for reasons nobody knows… my bias is because a sr can take mad abuse and hold revs right around redline so does my rb… a stock ka cant it took a shit. my sohc ka was my daily driver for a wile so i wasnt as abusive as i was. the motor pisses me off its worth nothing i blew it up. plain and simple. the sohc on purpose.
i think the harmonic imbalace, frantic head gasket problem and inability to hold high revs for any period are enuff to proove it crap. thats more than 1 reason and there all valid as far as i am concernd
for the same amout as a ka-t you could swap a sr or hell a RB and have money for a bag a chips left over
it dosent make sence. if you can spend 3 grand on a ka-t and run competitive or = times to a sr swap that cost the same and the sr is more prooven more reliable and has a bottem end good for 500hp plain and simple the sr is better all around if the ka-t was 500 bucks ok fine its a cheap setup but damn ka-t kits are far more than my RB and my rb has a t3 manif already on it so i can stick a nice t3/t04E 57 trim on it bolts up like a t28 on a sr20 and thats good enuff for me.
the boys at hybrid prooved a valid point. i found a manifold for my rb and i have never seen one for a KA. there modification basis is stateside only and the ability to get parts from HKS or apex or blitz or any smaller named manufacture. how bought tomei or somthing of that sort. so so so many jdm parts for the sr and almost everything you could dream of is avil state side even my rb. but i got to import alot of my stuff. i know people…how do you think i got Bee*R exhaust or R33 GT-S brakes all around on my car. the fronts dwarf the z32 TT’s in size the the same as a r32 GTR. that aside its not that hard to get parts from japan. takes time and some extra money for shipping but for the most part its market for s13’s is dying off so the price is goin down. sr20’s have been in s13’s since 90 in japan and its pretty much old news to them. now everyone here is hopping on the band wagon.
i think the last pittspeed meet i was b.s’n with jay and we sat n made fun of KA’s for a wile. its a waste of money when jay himself prooved its not that hard to hit 10’s on a stock sr bottem end.
my sr i think had about 3.5k invested (not counting labor) and i ran 13.2 @108 with a stock clutch and no lsd and thats pretty basic.
why be a super turner and all that bs your talkin about when 15psi on a stock sr witha fmic and exhaust gets you nice #'s thats reliable as hell for drift drag auto X or whatever the hell you wana do for that matter
ok so maybe i’l lbrake down and admit its not junk…but i think i just prooved its POINTLESS
yeah he’s got some sort of kit he’s piecing together for it
kolar my point wasn’t about the donuts but about the bouncing the revv limiter for that long and expecting nothign to happen.
jay is a very knowlegable person dont’ get me wrong but you’re basing your entire argument off what one guy says…seems to me if jay turned around and suddenly started saying “well ka motors can do this” you’d be out there proclaiming to the world about it
