Whats broke Modem or Router?

i have been having a lot of internet issues lately. i have adelphia and it does not like to work all the time. i have to play around with it daily to get it to work. i have a wireless-B linksys router hooked up to it with a broadband phone service box. today i took the computer off the wireless router casue i could not get on for nothing. so what was hooked up was the modem and the phone lines and after that it worked perfectly without the router. but then i hooked the router back up to the computer and it is working perfectly now. so my question is whats wrong the router or modem??

You answered your own Q.

yeah sounds like the modem is on its way out

happened to me as well…called them up they sent out a guy the next day who came by with a nice new modem…

definitly helped out with my speeds too!

make/model # of modem from adelphia?

i believe the model # is

TJ 715

hrm… that’s a pretty new model.

i’d leave just the modem connected to the comp for a few days, see if it gives you any trouble. if it doesn’t, and stays online consistently - prolly an issue with the linksys, might need its firmware updated.

EDIT: yeah, TJ715= DOCSIS 2.0… nothing faster, really

and when you say ‘phone box’… is there another router for VOIP?

really thats a newer model? i figured it would be old cause we have had it for like 4-5 years and have not got a new one

i just updated the firmware on the linksys though and i tried just the modem but it wont work without either the linksys or the phone box connected to it besides i need to have the phone box connected cause the phones in the house wont work otherwise

Yup… that’s it right there. Adelphia is good for that.

I have a Surfboard 3100 if you want

Onoes the great white elephant!

The 3100 is the roxor! I had one for just about 6 years at my parents house without an issue.

As far as your problem try using the modem directly plugged in fro a few days. If you dont have any issues the router is your issue.

Keep in mind the 3100/41xx series only has a year or possibly less left around this area.

yup, things sure have come a long way since i worked there. back when the 2100d was still hanging around. Hey fuzzy! Did they ever get NEMOS to group modems by street yet?

Good one, lol.

LOL. I miss that place (yeah im bringing back opposite day)
