The car has been garage kept since new, there is ZERO rust on the chassis. It is 9.5 outside(paint imperfections from age) and a 10 underneath. Its as clean as most of the jdm silvias and 180sx.
guy over here in BC is asking 5000 for a clean 130,000 original KM 240sx. I dont think there worth that much but thats what he wants. Regular no rust 240sx with 180, 000 +KM are going for 3000. Prob worth same if not more in rustopia ontario.
I asked the question because i had no idea people wanted this. His car also had 270k, was red, and had a blown engine.
Something to think about the 2000$ drop in value, kms, drivetrain, etc. It was basically a clean shell.
So, its not the same car, so to me they are worth different, i think anyone can agree gthat a car with half the k in good running order is worth more then one with bad drivetrain and 2x the k, am i right?
As much as I have been as asshole to you. Hear is my honest input. I think both are worth about the same. People are caring about the clean shell, regardless of km. They can buy a motor for like 50 bucks on here. Most guys buying these cars, are swapping them and doing them right up. Example, I sold my 89 hatch. It had NO rust. Faded paint. Would not pass an etest. For $3700. I then bought the motor and tranny back for $100… He didn’t care about the motor/ suspension/ colour of the car. If your car is this clean. You should be able to get $4000, if not a bit more if you hold out for a bit, or until summer. I would personally not pay that. But there are guys out there willing to pay for a solid platform. The red one should also have no problem getting close to $4000.
^ agreed I would pay 3500 - 4000 for a clean shell, I could care less about the motor suspension and brakes. I’ve spent a lot of time replacing pretty much every bolt on my car. If i did it again I would spend another 1500 to avoid all the hours I’ve put in just fixing crap, and my shell really wasn’t bad at all. Again your only going to be able to sell it for that much to someone whos addicted to these cars like i am.
I was willing to pay the little bit extra for mine. 240k on it, and had to replace brake pads and tires when I got it… though not a spec of rust ANYWHERE. It was worth it for me to have a solid platform before investing thousands in parts but I bought the car with the intention of never selling it so I wanted a good investment that I knew was in excellent condition.
I wouldn’t pay close to 4k though for a clean shell… thats just pushing it for these cars if you ask me. COMPLETELY Rust-less chassis, with a stock KA and stock everything I’d say is worth about 3000$… maybe 3500$ if its the cleanest stock 240 I’d ever seen and somehow was more clean than mine.
I think Cory’s closest to the answer, if we’re being honest.
Sharpe_Corner exaggerates how “clean” a car is… I looked at his “mint” S14 and it was far from “mint”… Argue as much as you want Dylan, you were fishing for cash and blew smoke up that cars ass… I have not problem with that, it’s fine… it’s marketing and perspective. Sellers always see the best in a car, buyers always see the worst… whatever.
pound for pound, cory has the right idea… I’d lower his scale based on age however that’s just me…
