the ka and sr trans difference is bell housing and one gear has a little bit more of a brace then the ka…honestly in my 180sx i just put in a ka transmission.
swapping hte bell housing sucks and gear oil stinks. if your ka trans is good keep it.
i dont think there is any more better about the sr trans. but i dont know everything.
Isn’t 5th gear a bit shorter also? (on the SR transmissions)
Honestly, I think people do it because most of the SR clips are lower mileage than their KA transmissions, and newer synchros equals butter shifting.

The difference between the Ka’s 4.083 ratio vs. the Sr20det’s 3.692 Final drive (with 1st, 2nd,3rd and 4th, overdrive geared exactly the same between the two) can be exploited for your particular purpose, however: a combination of a fast spooling turbo with shorter gearing can really help acceleration numbers, while an N/A S13 built for top end would benefit from the taller gearing, at the expense of accelteration.
syncros in the sr trans seem to take a shit too soon
