KA Tranny on SR20 + Release bearing.

Hi,

Im wondering if I can use a SR20DET Bellhousing on a KA Tranny.
Also what release bearing should I be using on a SR.

I checked the parts cross reference post didnt see it there.

Thanks
Kyle

You can, but unless you have experience with transmissions, its not an easy job. You have to turn the main shift linkage to the side, pop it out, remove the bellhousing parts (some c clips, etc), hammer it off, put the SR bellhousing on, make sure all the shift forks line up, and then bolt it back together. I have put them back together numerous times with the shfit forks not lined up, then you need to pretty much start over. Invest in a large tube of RTV ultra copper gasket maker. If you are making power, dont even both, I snapped something important inside my KA tranny this weekend at the track… Im making ~ 300whp.

This could be you!

I will also be pleased to walk you through it if you go this route. But remember…

who not just use the sr tranny?

ka has shorter gears

i thinks(after looking into it more they are the same)

kyle you just asked me this like an hour ago and i told you yes :stuck_out_tongue:

Wrong, they have the same gears. Bang on. The SR has a synchromesh reverse gear, FAT shift forks, overall a beefier tranny. KA uses some shitty linkage setup for reverse. Not as beefy.

snap crackle pop.

lol thats me pushing mr Taco… hope you got that all fixed

i ran a 13.6

Not yet - still trying to source an SR tranny. Thanks again Junior, couldnt have moved that sumbitch (as quickly) without you.

13.6 is fast! I got a 13.1 @ 106.3.

Thanks. Reason I want to know is cause I blew reverse/5th on my sr tranny and I got a KA tranny sitting around.

I have sr tranny for sale… tee hee hee

If you werent in napanee i’d get it from you.

its not THAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT far… lol

KA and SR Transmissions have the exact same gear ratio’s 1st-5th + Final Drive with the exception of the SR havin a loner reverse gear. Only other difference is the KA has 4th & 5th Gear Sensors where as the SR does not. Both SR/KA also use the exact same Release Bearing and Holder for it etc…

CA18 Transmissions will also work but they have a shorter 0.838 5th Gear any their Diffs/Final Drive are also shorter at 4.363

So either of those could be used (Nissan/Nismo actually sells the 5th Gear CA setup as an SR upgrade) for people looking to shorten their ratio’s a bit.
