Whats the difference between these turbos?

not trying to down talk your car or anything, but if ur set on making big power and getting this car to go fast why use a convertable?? is heavier and you still have to go through all the work to convert it to AWD. when you can go out and get a GSX with a blown motor for dirt cheap, that will have the AWD all ready to go and your gona have to build the motor either way. just something to think about before you start throwing all kinda cash in that car

lol isnt that obvious??

If I wanted a dime a dozen fast car i would have bought a $500 civic shell, spent $4-5k on motorwork and been in the 10’s… but civics are fuckin plain and have no style to them… at least not to me.

I like to be different and a fast convertible, (maybe not on this forum with all the fast s2k’s) is different as no one builds them.

If I wanted to be like the rest of the world, sure… I could have went out and bought a gsx that is stock AWD… But why is that fun? If I was going to buy a car I was going to keep stock I woulda bought a zr1 or a gtr or something…

As for the weight, the vert weighs only a couple hundred pounds more then the hard top and I’ve already got KK working on the AWD set up… I just have to get donor car to his shop and he said he could have it done in a day!

Being a car enthusiast, I am surprised you and others are not all for this swap… The hobby is “building” cars, not buying them already built the way we want them… Having a unique car that no one else has is an awesome feeling… Tell a Honda guy you put a b18 into a Del sol and see if they give a shit… Likely not as there are 352524584258245-89 b18 swapped del sols.

Making a FWD DSM into AWD is a piece of cake anyway. Stampings in the unibody are there. I did it to an old POS dodge avenger shell for a kid using 4g63 drivetrain and DSM subframes.

Dave if your seriously building this car to compete with rays supra, your going to need a bigger turbo.

I’ll talk to you in person… or ask lance/Mike wood about the set up im planning

Lance was always my go to guy for car advice… he knows his shit. Maybe il stop by the shop tomorrow, il be out that way.

Deff listen to this …

lol i just meant I told him about the set up im planning on going with… Since your a good dude that doesnt talk shit I am more then willing to share my plans

I’m only going by what people have said in this thread but what are your goals? If KOTS is what you are going for then a gt35r isn’t really going to do it. Please don’t take offense to this but I think your lack of knowledge puts you at a disadvantage if you want to beat ray. I hope you can work with someone that can help you reach your goals. It would keep you from making mistakes and doing it right the first time.

Just keep asking questions.

Goal is to be the fastest eclipse spyder out there… I’ve already accomplished 10’s in a DSM, but never with a vert. your actually right, I dont build turbo engines for a living therefore I only know about turbo set ups from experience which is only about 6-7 cars ive owned. After owning about 38 cars ive come to just love fast cars and DSM’s seem to be the easiest to work on and get info about… Please disregaurd what your hear about my car here on shift, its all a game really… im sure you will see/hear the finish product when its done… I’ve got about 4 people with tons of knowledge to work on the car, Mike Wood is going to be my main man as hes gonna hook me up and hopefully building my car will help get his name out there… Last, im building my car for MY personal goals and no one elses… Rays car and the time it runs just happens to be close to my goal.

There will always be some one faster. I would leave the car fun to drive. The AWD swap seems like a great idea for a street car. Either of those turbos would be great if your goals were lower. If it were my car I would get the .63A/R 58 trim. It would be a tough car to beat on the street especially from a dig. Gunning for Ray, I would save my money for a Supra or R35 GTR… By the time you’re done he will be faster. Or there will be another Turbo Civic cleaning up the streets…

Dave,

Take it from the person that did most of the work to Ray’s car (me)-if your goal is to be in the same league as it, you’re going to need an HTA86 at minimum, AWD and a reduced chassis weight. Unlike some, I’ll tell you that it’s absolutely possible, but you may not be happy with the street characteristics of the car.

The whole Ray thing as really words put in Daves mouth… if you all care to read back.

He mentioned making the vert good enough to run a 10 what ever. then someone said something like “just becasue it makes a ton of power doesnt mean it will easily run a number… Look at rays car…” then i think it was ray ran a 10 you think you are going to beat him… or something like that. what ever.

blown out of proportion.

1G’s have been around for ever most running close to his goals for a long time. 2g’s being slightly heavier and what not are still out there running his goals, but they have some reliability issues, mostly driveline wise.

Dave might not know everything about cars, and I know damn well I dont either… but projects are there just for this sort of thing… experience, knowledge and pride getting something done people say cant be done.

Eitherway, I doubt the car will disappoint many people with what we are thinking about doing.

Adam is right too, the shells are identical. Inconveniently they dont expose a few bolts for the rear subframe, and an hour with a spot weld and a mig will swap the trans mounts apparently. But yeah I havent personally done one yet, but when I have part A on this car I want to put on car B… I will find a way.

Making power is the easy part. Keeping it it in the driveline is going to be the challenge. Moderate power to start and weed out the bugs, with headroom to grow is going to be the key to this project. Think of it as 2 phases.

Considering that I have a near 800whp Evo, I’ve got a good idea of what these drivelines need to stay together and who sells the best parts/services to make it happen. With that said, www.teamrip.com is going to be your best option for driveline advice on this car.

actually, I will be talking to you a bit on this too.

No problem. I’m an idiot but I do have great resourses. I had so much shit going thru my mind the other day that I could not remember the term ‘turnbuckle’…I’ve only used them in aircraft maintenance for 14 years:rofl:retardclap

Nahhh its all goood homie… actually dave found something hes interested in and I could use your opinion too… PM coming at ya if you have a sec.

I know its possible. This platform lends itself better to a street terror than a 9 second supra slayer. With some seat time Ray should be 9s easy. Only reason he is not is because he can only make a full run once or twice a year before they boot him for not having a cage.

I think the owner and operator would be happier with a mid 11 second street car than a low 10- high 9s car with dog box and striped interior as well as all the safety equipment like cage and harnesses.

But if ya want to go supra hunting you’re still better off on a Hyabusa… An you’ll lose

I would imagine his goals are possibly to break into the 9’s. So ~140+ mph assuming awd. A gt35r might be able to do this if setup properly. HTA or 6262 will guarantee you enough power for 9’s.
