wheel width and offset questions

So as of the last week or soo I have acquired 2 sets of wheels for my car. My car is a 2013 scion fr-s. Stock ride height. One set of wheels are 17x7 with a +40 offset. The second set are 17x8 with a +48 offset. My question is, which wheels will appear to be wider and stick further out away from the hub. The 17x7 +40 or the 17x8 +48?? would they be about the same since one is an inch wider but the other is 8mm more outward of an offset??

any Insight would be appreciated.

Front spacing (in) = (Width (in)/2) - (ET (mm) /25.4)

Figure it out from there.

There are some websites out there that will let you plug in the info the see the changes, if you want to avoid the math.

the 17x8 will appear and actually be a couple mm wider but both of them are going to suck

I’ve used this OG site forever - https://www.rimsntires.com/specspro.jsp

I’ve found it to be fairly accurate and easy to play…

Yup, that’s the one.
