NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Gillette unveiled a new line of razors on Wednesday with five blades and a lubricating strip on both the front and back.
The razor, known as the Fusion, will be available in both a men’s and women’s version, and has blades spaced 30 percent closer than Gillette’s current MACH3Turbo system. It also has a single blade on the back of the cartridge for precision when shaving sideburns or under the nose.
“We have high expectations that it will break the sales records previously set by Gillette MACH3,” Gillette’s Peter Hoffman said in a press release.
Razors accounted for nearly half of the company’s $2.8 billion net sales in its most recent quarter, according to filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Gillette’s razor sales were hurt after Energizer Holdings (Research) introduced the Schick Quattro last year, the world’s first four-blade razor, according to the Boston Business Journal.
The Fusion will also be available in a power version and features a micro-chip that regulates the voltage and blade action. Other high-tech features include a low battery indicator light and a safety switch that shuts the razor down after eight minutes of continuous operation.
The manual version will be available in North America in the first quarter of 2006 and has a retail price of $9.99 with two cartridges.
The power model hits stores at the same time and comes with a one cartridge and a AAA battery for $11.99.
I got a free 4 blade razor in the mail and have been using that for the last week or so. It sucks balls. Its hurts to shave with it and I don’t think it does a very good job. This morning I went back to my Sensor Excell (2 blades) with an old refill in it and it was smooth as smooth can be and no razor burn.
Plus its hard to line up your side burns when you have an razor surface that is an inch tall.
Edit: BTW more cylinders = better…always true:wave:
woot … 5 blades means it will dull just as fast as others … and be more expensive
i prefer the double bladers … the quatro i have is still sharp but packed with hair … despite taking short strokes and rinsing it every time … wtf good is that ?
hotrod’s gotta point, the more blades, the shit gets jammed into them.
I still have a regular ole 3 blade on a pivot head. works for me. When I let is grow too long over the weekend or something i resort to my single blade big headed 20 yr old shavor.
Bah, I personally know 4 people with the new “vibrating” razors… 3 women, 1 man… never understood that :gotme:
why dont they make ones with extensions or ones that attach to like back scratchers or something because it’s not easy shaving your own back…sure 5 blades is nice…but its not what i need
What is with these women’s shavers that are shaped funny and vibrate?!?
Why don’t they just call it a vibrator?
Why else would you want/need a vibrating shaver?
