So I have this crappy headunit, it was cheap replace because the CD player on my old one took a shit. So now I’m looking into getting a new one. Preferably with an aux. plug-in for my ipod and sirius radio. I’ve had both Jensen, and Pioneer (not my choice) and have not been happy with either.
What do you guys prefer?
I was looking a Sony one, but I really don’t know what is good.
i like my kenwood a lot. alpine is alright, but im not that into it. I despise Sony (even though I love it for home theater).
I like Pioneer’s audio controls, esp the sub controls. my only beef with them was maybe 4 years ago, when you play mp3 cd’s, there was a delay when you switch tracks, ff or rewind. but i believe they have gotten rid of that
I will probably go either kenwood or pioneer for my next car
btw- you left out clarion. I’ve never had one so I can’t comment, but I’ve heard good things
Pioneer and Alpine are probably the two top brands out now. Both make quality decks and the least amount of problems that I’ve seen.
Kenwood and Clarion are probably the next best choices as far as quality goes.
JVC and Panasonic would be next in line. Their good bang for the buck decks. Their easy to use and cheap. If your looking to just swap out a factory radio and keep it basic, these would be a good brands.
Sony makes rather poorly made 12 volt products. Their CD changers are good, but everything else is pretty low quality unless your dealing with their old Mobile ES equipment from back in the day.
I’ve seen ly555is post that Eclipse >* in a few threads. They used to be some of the best made decks out there, but their quality sucks as of now, you might want to do some research. They dont even come with a detachable face, and the ESN is a pretty stupid concept. Their a knock off of alot of JVC/Sony designs.
Just about any brand deck has an option to have an aux input. If its not built in on the face, you can buy a cable that will convert the cd changer input to an aux input. Also, most companies make an ipod interface that will allow you to plug your deck like an aux input, but the advantage is that you can conrol your ipod right from the deck.
Alpine >*
Although I have the Kenwood in my car now. But I wanted a Double din 7in. touch screen and Kenwood had the best one. If Alpine made a nice touch screen I would have bought that no doubt.
Thanks guys. I have a pioneer right now, and I’m not happy with the shitty radio reception. I figured it was just the head unit, because with my old head unit, I had no issues with getting reception. So maybe it’s actually a problem with the antenna.
Either way, I’m going to get a new head unit.
And I didn’t put every single brand on the poll because I’m lazy.
how much does one of those adaptor cable things cost? Cause I have a Denison icelink for a kenwood, shit was like $200. and i no longer have a kenwood, it got stolen
i have had pioneer and clarion pro. I have used alpine and jvc. The clarion was the best by far, followed by the alpine then the pioneer. This was also based on the pioneer being a less expensive model. Both the alpine and the clarion were bigger $$. I think that the clarion was a little over 400 alone. Really he brand wont matter as much as finding one with all of the features that you want. Eclipse has some real nice amps built in if you have upgraded your speakers already.
